Taylormade TP Juno/Soto

I know other people have posted about these, but I rolled one the other day, and I was impressed. IMO they were as good as anything PING or Scotty Cameron or better. Loved the feel, clean lines, and didn't notice the ball skidding or skipping as much. Great offerings to go along with the equally good, again imo, Spider Tours. Anyone else noticed the same with these putters?

The TP Collection is a solid line of putters and they would be doing very well if they weren't being overshadowed by the Spider Tour putters.

I recently got a fitting and my suggestions were a mallet with a toe

hang between 30* and 45*. The Juno and Soto felt great. They each have 35* of toe hang. I have been putting with the TP Mullen the last 2 weeks which is the TP mid mallet and it has 38* of toe hang and for me, it's a little more stable forgiving then the Juno and Soto. But I agree that the feel of the Juno and Soto is just as good as the PING Sigma G, Odyssey O-Works and the new Scotty Camerons.

I think I'll pull the trigger on a Mullen over the weekend.

I agree, it's a very good line of putters. I find something about the design of the Soto makes it appear ever so slightly more boxy than most Newport style heads, which I actually like. I would have already picked one up if they weren't so light. I'm one of those in the camp with people who prefer a heavier putter, and 345g doesn't do it for me, particularly at 34" or so. Perhaps with a lot of practice I could get used to it but a slightly heavier head really helps me with distance control.

I rolled the Berwick and loved the feel of it. Was going to pull the trigger, but saw a pic of that "wingless" Spider and am waiting to see what TM is coming out with soon

Have you picture of this "wingless" Spider? I'm very intrigued

Thanks for the link. I'm assuming that the specs are the same as the Spider Tour with "wings" and I can't lag putt with those putters to save my life so I'd say that I'll still purchase the TP Mullen over the weekend.

Since you've rolled both lines, are the inserts the same or similar? I liked the feel of the TP Berwick insert, but I'm probably the only person on GolfWRX who has never rolled a Spider even at a shop. I've picked them up, looked down at it, and put it back on the rack about 10 times.

The insert in the TP line is the same as in the Spider Tour Red JD putter as outlined in this article.

http://www.golfwrx.com/405802/taylormade-launches-tp-putter-line-enters-the-classic-category/

Take what I say with a pinch of salt as feel is subjective but I'll share my experience with both. I'm sure some may disageee with my assessment.

While the TP line has the same insert as the Spider Red, the feel is not simalr. I honestly think that I've never putted better with any putter inside 6 feet as I did with the Spider. It was so stable. Middle distances were also decent but I just couldn't dial it in on the ones beyond 15 feet. I felt I had to really give it a good whack on lag putts and that in turn, threw off my feel, pace, line etc. Others have mentioned that they have encountered the same issue with the Spider Tour red and black.

I think the TP Mullen (which is the TP Collection putter that I've been playing around with and it has the same amount of toe hang as the Spider Tours) performs close enough to the Spider on short and middle distances but I find the TP Mullen way better on putts that are 15 feet+.

There is a fantastic feel off the Mullen on short, middle distance and long putts. I'm not a big fan of insert putters as most of them feel too soft for my slower than average tempo stroke at impact but I don't have this issue with the TP Collection inserts. The Mullen and the Berwick are compact mallets which appear to really suit me. I like the weight dispersion on them. They are very stable through each stroke.

I've also mentioned this on another thread on here. The TP Collection would be doing very well if it wasn't overshadowed by the Spider Tours. DJ and Garcia have ditched the Spider Tours as of late and as far as I'm aware, Johnson, Mcilroy, Kaymer (not doing much right now but a 2 time major champion) and Matsuyama are all currently gaming putters from the TP line.

Its funny to see all of the sudden people are dropping their spiders on the bst for these now!

I think it's down to 2 main factors. Firstly, many people want to love these putters (myself included) but it's very hard to dial in the distance with them especially over longer distances.

Secondly, DJ who won 3 or 4 tournaments in a row before the Masters with the Spider black and Garcia winning the Masters with a Spider red have both ditched their Spiders. I feel that gives them justification to put them on the BST.

The TP Collection line are a quality premium line of putters and IMHO, the Spider Tours are a bit gimmicky. I would take a TP putter over a Spider any day.

I have a Berwick arriving tomorrow. I fell in love with the Berwick a few weeks ago at Golf Galaxy, but my putting hasn't been a problem so I wasn't motivated to buy it. Caught a great price on a used one last week, so I finally get to see whether it can beat out my Cameron X2.

Just bought the Juno TP (non-copper) and am just in love...is that wrong. This thing is just balanced perfect for my stroke. I tend to open the toe to much on the takeaway with Anser styles, but this putter I dont tend to fight this. I also love the insert. It is firm/muted enough with just the right amount of pop to fit my style of putting. I can not wait to get this on the course. I will report back after the round!

Thanks, Kris.

I love my silver TP Soto. Puts a great roll on the ball, feel is slightly firm, but the roll I get with it out weighs that. I got the TM Winn AVS black midsize pistol grip at 52 grams instead of the stock Lamkin. Kept the stock 10 gram weights and got it at 35". The lighter grip gives me a little bit more feel in the head. Also have noticed that TM's 35" putters are a hair shorter than other's which has been fine. It's an easy anser style head to put with, very straight with lines. I also feel that I can put a SBST stroke on it as well as an arched type of stroke depending on the break/slope of the green. I have not found that as easy to do with any mallet style putter that I have tried, but those have all been face balanced. Not a huge TM fan by any means, but for some reason throughout the years I have always liked their putters, this is the first one that I have owned.

Rolled a Juno a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love with the putter. It had the pistol SS grip and I think that helped contribute to the great balance of the putter. Mulled it over a few weeks and finally pulled the trigger, though I bought a used one that doesn't have the superstroke grip.

I'll get a separate SS grip and add it on later, can anybody confirm the exact type of SS grip? Is it a Pistol 1.0?
