Kevin Na's shot was different as it was in the woods and there is no allowance given for being in the woods, its not a hazard, there is no clear margin.

If Bill Haas had tried that shot in the Tour Championship and failed, say it had ricocheted backwards, he wouldnt have just kept dropping balls in that one spot in the water lol.

BTW I cant possibly be the only one thats tried something dumb like this and failed.

I was talking about taking an unplayable.

Sort of similar to how sometimes you're taking a big gamble by not taking an unplayable in a questionable scenario - because where you played your last shot no longer becomes desirable once you try to play the shot. That's how Kevin Na made a 16 that one time. He tried to play something questionable, and failed. At that point he had no good "drop from where you last played" option.

He could've taken an unplayable after the second tee shot into the woods (like he did after the first tee shot into the woods), but he tried to play out of the woods and failed. At that point he was F'ed in the A, because where he played his last stroke was still in the woods.

I guess technically he could still back out of the woods keeping that point between him and the hole but I have no idea where it was or if that was even possible.

I don't think he had the option to pull it back out of the woods. But, he might have used two club lengths at least once in the woods to get a better swing.

Sorry to interrupt this awesome rules discussion...

Has anyone ever played Lodestone? I am meeting 2 friends there on Sunday morning. It is high in the state rankings (for what those are worth).

Buddy of mine played there a couple weeks ago. Said it was in phenomenal condition but very fast and challenging greens.

I think you guys might need another hobby. If I ever find myself lying awake at night thinking about the rules of golf, I am either going back downstairs to guzzle a bottle of bourbon or roll over and ravage the Mrs.

Good point. I think I'm going to give up golf and take up alcoholism and "sexual assault".

Johnny what's the mood like around Vegas? And how was your round?

Flying out to Vegas with the wife tomorrow morning. Planned the trip months ago to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and her birthday (I'm cheap so 2 birds 1 stone). Staying at Luxor based on recommendation from SIL and BIL, but from the looks of it the hotel is directly in front of the concert field. I'm sure Vegas will still be Vegas but I'm wondering how toned down the atmosphere

If you had been under a rock for >48 hrs and were roaming around the casino floor, you'd never know there was a huge shooting. Things are largely "business as usual."

With that said, all of the resorts have info about finding friends and family on their marquees and the local news and radio are still talking about it. It's kind of tough seeing the huge boards saying "need help locating friends or family? Contact LV Metro Police at this number." The strip is still closed in front of Mandalay Bay. It might be worth a call to see how access to the resort is being handled since the Luxor is right beside Mandalay Bay. I think they are allowing guests into the resorts but normal traffic can't travel that section of the road.

Most places canceled shows last night but they are resuming tonight. So yeah, getting back to normal.

The round yesterday was....interesting. Overall, it was a lot of fun and Golfinnova was a great host and playing partner. Desert golf is not like east coast golf. First, it was very windy through the first 2/3 of the round. I don't consider myself a high ball hitter but shots would get up there and just stop or would take off with the wind. It was crazy and something I haven't experienced until yesterday. I lost a bunch of balls out in the desert because of this. I also ended up short on a lot of approaches due to misjudging the wind. I also found it hard to track balls. Everything is tan and brown and the white balls just get lost due to the backdrop. If you weren't in the fairway or rough, the ball was probably lost. Conditions were excellent and the greens were firm and fast. Surprisingly, I putted pretty well. Normally fast greens don't treat me well. Overall it was a great day and I would highly recommend playing one of the Paiute courses if you are out here.

Denny McCarthy earned his PGA tour card through the web.com finals. Impressive.

I'm watching the replay coverage. They keep showing Castro and you can see Denny walking around in the background, but then they cut away and don't show any of his shots.

Plus they keep showing FAbb for some reason. He's playing moderate golf, but looks like he retains his tour card.

Great night on the course, this is really just the prime golf time of the year. Some of the trees are already starting to turn too. Just fabulous.

Took the AP3s and the G400s out with me to try out. AP3s were really underwhelming, had hoped for something better. Nothing amazing. The G400s were better but still not great. Going to do some work with Flightscope next week but right now I'm heavily leaning towards a reshaft of the Cobras if anything.

Shipped the Toulon Indy off to Continental to get the front redone in matte black, should be back in a couple weeks. Having seen a lot of their work I cant wait to see how it turns out.

I'm still confused on what the AP3s really are. Are they just forged AP1's that focus on distance?

Johnny, thanks for the compliment. It was a pleasure to meet you, hope we can do it again.

It was a fun round yesterday, the wind definitely played some tricks with us as both Johnny and I hit shots that were thought to be good only to be found in bunkers or in the desert.

Johnny thought he would have issues with the speed of the greens as they usually run 9-10 but he was spot on with the majority of them. He sank a downhill 15-footer on the 1st with absolute perfect pace. Then his short game was just incredible, he had at least 5 up and downs even after taking drops on a couple.

The funny story of the round is on 18, Johnny hits a perfect drive. He had about 148 out IIRC and he is navigating a dog leg left over water. He absolutely blades an iron that clangs off the clubhouse towers like bells going off. I turned towards him and say "that's the first time in 8 years any one has hit the clubhouse", we just had a good laugh considering the clubhouse sits a good way back and is 2 stories above the fairway. So what does he do, takes a drop from where his ball left the fairway and beautifully pitches it over several hills to roll within 3 feet where he of course sank the putt. Just sick recovery.

Any one who comes out in the future and wants to get in a round up at Paiute give me a shout.

Alex Morgan got kicked out of Disney World for being drunk.

That's my favorite athlete in Disney story since Nancy Kerrigan told Mickey Mouse, "This is so dumb. I hate it. This is the most corny thing I've ever done."

Goosehook and I have played this track. I found it was a course with some blind shots and some down hill shots that can be tricky to judge. It is a mountain course for sure. Being to aggressive off the tee can cause some problems. But being aggressive with approach shots can be rewarding. Everything breaks away from the mountains even if it looks the oppose way. No one was there the day I played it and it is definitely a riders golf course. Played in 2 1/2 hours. Playing it the first time with someone who knows the place would really have helped club and direction decisions.
