Is the Ping G400 Tour 65 Shaft still made by UST?

If I recall correctly, the Tour 65 and Tour 75 in the G400 are the same as the Tour 65 and Tour 80 that were in the previous G drivers, just with different paint jobs. PING's customer service is generally pretty helpful, so you could always just call them and ask for the shaft info you're looking for.

Yes it is. And the Tour 65 is actually almost identical to the Aldila Rogue Black

I was told at a fitting less than a week ago that the Ping G400 shafts (all models) were made by UST.

Not true. Aldila makes the Alta shafts.

The Tour 65 has a very stiff tip and medium soft lower mid section. The soft section will "kick" but the stiff tip will keep the head from whipping and turning over through impact too much.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'm curious as to how you know this. The guy that told me that UST made the Ping shafts is a pretty veteran club guy, and got that info from the Ping rep. Your source might be better, but I know to a certainty that UST makes the Ping Tour shafts. Perhaps Alta is a different matter, perhaps not.

Doesn't really matter, of course; since the G30 line especially, Ping has done a great job of getting shafts made specifically for their clubheads.

The G30 and G shafts were made by UST (says it right on the shaft). They made a change for the G400 and it is made by Aldila (my Alta Stiff definitely is an Aldila shaft label). This was also confirmed by my Ping rep. before I got my driver. The Tour shaft is still made by UST and the X-Torsion is Aldila.

I used the Alta S for a bit but it was too tip soft compared to the G30 Stiff so that is what I'm using.

From what I remember reading about Ping is they use multiple suppliers, so they never run into a supply issue. Ping Grips have been produced by both Golf Pride and Lamkin and these shafts by both Alidla and UST.

This is correct. Aldila and UST are owned by the same parent company.

I don't think that is correct... Aldila is owned by Mitsubishi Chemical while UST Mamiya is a subsidiary of Mamiya-OP Co. Ltd. And there doesn't seem to be any connection between Mitsubishi Chemical and Mamiya-OP, other than both being headquartered in Tokyo.

So what is the Tour 75 then? Similar spec?

Yes, same profile, but heavier weight.

Pretty sure the Tour 65 is a Recoil 450 ES.

Nope. Someone posted a confirmation from UST in another thread that the Tour 65 & 75/80 are a slightly modified Elements Chrome.

As for the Aldila vs UST comments above, Ping has used both in varying capacities in the past. In some cases one company exclusively designs and produces a particular model and in other cases Ping has both companies produce a specific model to a common spec for supply redundancy purposes. The Tour 65/75/80 models have been exclusively produced UST.

Lastly, Aldila and UST have no affiliation.

Interesting read here. I just picked up the G400 Max with a Tour 65 x shaft and was beyond amazed by the "stock" shaft numbers. Didn't see the purpose of upgrading the shaft. Always been a fan of UST and to find out they are the stock shaft maker is amazing. Great job Ping!

I've always heard great things about the stock tour 65. What is your swing speed and what kind of numbers were you seeing with the 65 x?
