What's the best golf training aid you've ever used?

For me it's that big golf swing circle.

Putting mirror. Has helped with a consistent day in and day out set up/feel over the ball along with starting the ball on the correct line.

 

It really is the only "training aid" I use if you don't count tees, alignment sticks, and gloves. Can pretty much work on any drills given those items.

Using the line on my ball to develop pure putting alignment and stroke that allows me to can 4-footer after 4-footer (which I never could do before that).

Putt over it - typically from 3 feet or so - you go over a dime consistently and you have your start line down - great to do at home as well as course.

Another vote for Tour Stricker. One of the true aha moments of my early days with golf and no quicker way to teach people to hit DOWN on the ball. Never quite understood that concept until I bought that thing.

I used the 5footer putting training aid to go from a putting handicap of 16.9 to .1 in Arccos and stay there. I think if you’re weak in that area there is a lot of return on your time with any aid that focuses on short putts.

That they fundamentally don't understand HOW to improve. Odds are, every one of those people out there have tried various aids and gotten all kinds of instruction. The overwhelming majority have failed the "modern" way. They need a different way to approach the problem.
