Maltby TS2

Popeye64

Recommended Posts

Just finished shafting up some TS2’s. 4 thru gap. Give them a whirl at our new sim a couple of blocks away from home. Trying Nippons this time. Lots of stock at Maltby.

With the amount of snow in Canada this year we might be on the course by mid June!
Finally dialed in my KE4-TC. Took a long time. It’s interesting how sound can effect a player. Once I had the sound muted I started to like the driver.

Hopefully late February, early March according to Britt in the GW forum.

https://ralphmaltby.com/questions/question/new-max-wedges/

Also experienced issues with a TSW wedge in lusher/soft turf conditions.  Wants to dig if I'm not careful with it.  Waiting to order a 1.05" Max 58* wedge.   Next wedge up that's in need of replacement.  If a perceived improvement is noted, likely will replace the 54* TSW with a Max of a YTBD sole width.

Anyone used the Maltby Pro Series graphite shafts?

Considering building a 5/7/9/G short iron set of DBMs with the graphite shafts just to play around with them.  Could build the 4 clubs for $250 all in for a short set bag.

I have the maltby pro series in my sti2 irons and tsw wedge.

I like them alot. Had no issues transitioning from steel. Have the pro series in reg flex. I have a somewhat aggressive transition and these shafts hold up well. Like the height I get from them as I tended to hit my irons lower than desired with steel.

I'm an aging 16 capper, for reference.

Thanks!  What iron shafts do you think are comparable?  From what I've read already these play a little bit stiffer than other shafts - were you playing R or S flex before going to the R flex Pro Series?

I am finding my sweet spot seems to be slightly lighter stiff flex steel shafts (115g range).  No idea where to start with graphite.

Actually, I first got the pro series in stiff flex. They were too stiff for me. In fact, I getting them pulled from my ptms.

My original thinking was the pro series are lighter than steel and assumed my ss would increase. For me, that didn't work. I always used reg flexed steel in the past.

Anyhoo, if interested and these pulls are successful, I will be selling these stiff pro series within the next month or so.

The MPF shafts in stiff are at the upper edge of stiff in many shafts they are an X. I have FST 115 in X and they are barely R in DG.

In various sets of irons I've been playing DG120 S300, Rifle Flighted 6.0 and now Elevate Tour 115. I had some X100s in my irons and swapped them for the Elevates after a few rounds.

Curious if the Maltby shafts in R flex would be closest. Of course the weight is much different. I just enjoy trying different things out.

From the GW website, Jim Y answering a question about the KBS Tour 105 v. the Maltby Pro Series.

The Pro Series R flex iron shafts test stiffer than normal and will likely play stiffer than the Tour 105 R flex. Personally I do not feel the Pro Series plays much stiffer but I do find it to be a stable shaft. The Pro Series matches up well with the STi2 irons With the lighter weight it could still work well.

I play KBS Tours in Stiff and I still found the MPF felt stiffer per peak trajectory. A KBS Stiff is suppose to be a mid traj

according to the KBS and following GW tipping they play at a 5.0 on CFM

I guess the Maltby shafts could be tip trimmed a little longer to soft step, no?

On the other hand I'm considering spending a couple more bucks and trying the new Aldila NV graphite iron shafts.

Again, according to Jim Y at GW, the new NV iron shaft is virtually the same as the Maltby although it has the advantage of being offered in heavier weights.

Just got my STI2s package.

Wow these things are gorgeous. Everything I read said they look better in person but even the pictures on here don’t do them justice. I’m honestly thinking of posting higher-res photos so others can get a better idea of what they look like before buying.

I can’t wait try them out tomorrow on the range.

Please do post more pics (we love pics)!!

Tried a little experiment to remove the black paint from the sole where the “Maltby” is written. Not sure yet if I’m going to take them off on the rest of the set. Took a while for the 4 iron but not sure if I like it enough to do to the rest.

Will post more pictures from the range tomorrow from address.

The one criticism I have read for the STi2 irons and it’s been mentioned more than once is the odd flyer like shot. A shot that flys much further than usual, for no apparent reason.

I played them most of last season 100+ rounds.  The only flyers that I had were from flyer lies...could you elaborate on the flyers you were seeing....

Not me, I haven't used them yet. Just reading a couple of online reviews and it was mentioned by different people and is the only negative I've read.  Most of the reviews are extremely positive. Now if GW Customer Service would respond to my emails I might buy a set.

I could see that happening with the TS2 but wouldn’t think so with the STI2.
