Any News on a TaylorMade P770 Replacement? (Pics added pg 8)

Recommended Posts

Why wouldn't they have kept the look the same as the P790?

Probably to distinguish it more.

I get that but it would have made it easier to combo.

You can still combo them even if they don’t look indentical. I’m glad they look

different from the P790s. Loved their performance but not their looks.

Remember on the Pxxx models, the number referred to blade length - 730 being the smallest and 790 the longest.

760 will fit between the 750 and 770. The tech if you will is the use of speed foam and tungsten.

Pics cannot be released yet sorry

As you are someone who has seen them. How did the long irons look? Think I’d like a combo set of 770/750. Or now maybe 790/760. I play a full bag of the P790 currently. But find it really tough with any workablility with the shorter irons. If the P760 long irons are not 750 size id definitely consider putting a full bag of them in play. As per your top line post, looks as if they are more Ap2 size maybe a hair smaller?

I don’t think you will need to mix the 760 with the 790. The 760 long irons do not look that small to my eye, more 770 like. The 760’s look a bit thicker in the top line than PSI tours with what looks like a more progressive offset. The 790’s may be a 1 off club like a 3 iron added to the set for most I would guess.

I’ve heard it said that the 760s are much like a combo set up. Is that how you would categorize them?

They are basically a combo set with smaller, cleaner looking long irons than the 790. I do prefer the cosmetic of the 750-770 to the 760 badging.

It says it’s forged in the photo
Like the 790 it may be a cast body with a forged face.

On the contrary, the Japanese words say it has a S25C forged body with a cast SUS630 face.

It may say that, but to realize this combination in the manufacturing process is very ambitious.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but alone the cooling time of the body has to be so precise (to prevent shrinkage or warping) that this would be impossible for mass production.

It's much easier the forge the face alone, as it can be cooled under pressure to retain form. To do the opposite is (as far as I know) not cost efficient.

Found this on Instagram. https://www.instagra...id=2fz9abh3wld9

Looks like a cross between the RAZR X Forged and MP18 MMC.

They do really resemble the RAZR X Forged, butt ugly. They may perform just fine though.

The 760 will be like the 770 and 790 had a baby. Forged.

Mathematically....wouldn’t that sorta be a 780 though...? 780 sounds perfect to me.

780..760...whatever just bring them on! If they give me the distance and straight ball flight of the 790 long irons and the feel of my 770 in the scoring irons, I’m in.

Are we looking at a price tag higher than that of the 750's?

I think these are going to look much better in person. I'm excited to see these and really like when you can stay with the same iron throughout the set but get some added forgiveness in the long irons. Not a huge fan of blending different irons together beyond a driving iron. I can't seem to let my Nike VR Forged Combos go. Ideally, I would like to see the speed foam stop with the 6 iron but will have to see how they perform.

Anyone know how far the foam goes into the set? If it goes beyond the 6 I'm probably out. Don't really see a point in it being in 7-iron.
I believe somone said thru 7 iron.

The speedfoam is not just a distance thing, it really helps with vibration/sound reduction in the short irons as well. So I would have a preference to have it in all the irons.

Also would help with feel if the heads were forged rather rhan cast...maybe forged but the detail in the back says cast.

Taylormade should have just from the beginning released P730 MB forged, P760 forged CB (same cavity style as 750&770), and then the P790's. These new 760's may perform just fine, but they are not going to have the feel of the original P series irons. Seems to me that they are cutting corner's with making this a cast head, just doesn't seem right.

I'm interested in the updates to the P790 now as well, will give the 760's a try but may stick with my 770's (I absolutely love them) unless there is a huge different, however, I do need help on my 4 and possibly 5 iron, so I will be looking to possibly blend some long irons to round out my set

I've got P770s but changed the 4 iron to a P790 bent a degree weak, has that little bit of extra forgiveness

Just bought a set of p750 to swap in and out with my p770 not keen on the p760 but that might change in a year but really like the industrial look of the current ones and also the fact the 750 and 770 look very similar in the bag

I wonder how much a set of irons would cost if they actually made these with true forged heads? Forge the head and hollow it out with a cnc machine. Then weld the face on and insert whatever material on the inside if needed. Maybe pxg prices?

Why would they spend more money to make a product just to spend more money making it? There’s no performance benefit in doing it.

I made the same equipment change but did not adjust the loft. That for iron is so good from the Tee or Fairway. It was the reason for me to also pick up five through pitching wedge in the 790s.
