Smoothest swing you've seen live?

Not a fan of his swing, but the smoothest I've seen live is Jaco Van Zyl.

 

Van Zyl for sure, along with the rest of the South Africans - Oosthuizen, Scharl, Ernie

 

Cabrera Bello live was also quite smooth

 

Yep. I followed Jaco for 9 holes during a recent SA PGA Champs. Man..he was smooth & effortless. His whole demeanor was just chill x 100.

I walked with Ernie Els' group in Tampa his last PGA event there. I could watch him all day just trying to memorize that tempo.

Amazing that most any player who "swings within themself" makes it look smooth, easy and kills it.

 

Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here?

 

When I compare films of the swing that destroyed my body, and the swing which my body can make today, they are totally different.

Was impressed with the tempo that Gary Woodland has. Anything but the driver is swung with little effort. You just hear that ball piercing through the air. It’s magic.

By the way, he got out played that day by a dude I hadn't heard of, Jim Furyk.

There's too many. But from my experience watching the co-sanctioned events here in South Africa - Rory, Jordan Smith & Big Easy Ernie.

 

I followed all 3 when they came for the SA Open about 3 years ago. Jordan Smith is smooth as silk!

What a great shout on Jordan Smith's smooth swing. I watched that event with him and Rory too and thought the same that this relatively unknown person's swing was like butter...

A lot of you have said Ernie, and I agree, in the 90's. His tempo has changed. I remember seeing him at the '94 U.S. Open as a boy and marveling at how his driver swing looked like he was rocking a baby to sleep. Lol, I also remember being shocked at how he and Faldo made Norman look like a child when standing together on the range.

 

I agree with several others on here who mention Oosthuizen. Also Luke List is surprisingly absent from this forum for anyone who has attended a tour event in the last 5 years.

 

Surprisingly never saw Freddie at a tour event, but would imagine he would outright dominate this category.

I was surprised it took 4 pages for Amy Yang to earn a mention. If she were American it would have been quick atop Page 1, and if that swing belonged to a male it would be in the OP and everywhere else.

 

Oosthuizen is an easy choice for male. It looks great on TV but is astonishing in person, especially once you watch the distance he manages on such a compact frame

Been a steward at birkdale 3 times and the most fluid swings I've seen live are couples, woosie, faldo and Elkington. All effortless but boy they all could hit the ball! Another mention is Tom Watson, but because I was in awe of the great man as he signed a hat for me

Having played with numerous Tour players (mostly when I was on the Senior Tour in the 90's), 2 "oldies but goodies" come to mind - Gene Littler and Tommy Aaron. Have also played with Freddy C.

I saw Fred Couples at the Canadian Open back when he first came on tour. His real swing looked more like his practice swing. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how he got such distance out of what looked like a slow and smooth swing. Looks are deceiving I guess.

I think for the "famous" golfers, Couples and Els will be frequently mentioned, and rightfully so. But a swing that I think is right up there, and was fortunate enough to get a lesson from him, is Bruce Leitzke's. Just a classic old-time swing, reverse C finish that was so smooth and effortless.

 

Personally, I think people who play a fade have a "smoother" looking swing than those who play a draw. Something about the hand action through the impact zone...
