I've had this ongoing discussion with golf buddies as that is what i do, but they say no... you should always take your most lofted wedge no matter what it is and just hit a normal chip. when i ask what is normal, they can't describe it.

No they aren't... they seriously only use their lob wedge around the greens and maybe even out to 10-20 yards out. It's very interesting whenever i play with them.

Lie.

Contour of the green.

Wind.

Firmness of the green.

Speed of the green.

Type of ball.

Length of shot.

Grippiness of wedge.

Ratio of carry to run that's available to you.

All of those considerations -- and probably some that I missed -- go into every green side shot. I mean, most of that comes along automatically.

I'm not going down a checklist every time I have a short game short. I'm just saying that I know that if I have a brand new wedge, it's going to spin more than an old wedge and a pro V1 is going to spin more than a top-flite and a fast green is going to be faster than a slow green.

Good points City. I think i only do lie, speed of green, length of shot, and the ratio of carry. i got some new things to consider now.

Not a counterpoint, but more of an addendum. City is a very good short game player, with a lot of tools at his disposal. He can run through that full analysis, pick a shot that gives him the best chance to hit it close, and then actually execute it. Granted most situations he's probably hitting something fairly basic, but there are certainly times he's hitting shots most golfers don't have. If you're not as proficient and able to hit the array of shots he can, you might not have to take quite as much into consideration. There's no magic formula you can punch every single variable into, and get one right answer for everybody. It's another area people get in trouble - they take things into consideration that maybe make them select a shot they can't hit, at least not consistently.

the amount that city takes into consideration probably is inconsistent with what alot of us take into consideration, and thats a part of the separation of what makes city good and me mediocre. That being said, i think if you dont have all the shots in your arsenal your best option is to get the ball on the green in one stroke, no matter how you do it. if you're a flopper, flop, a leading edge guy, poke it, and if you're a use the bounce fanatic then use the bounce. As long as your next stroke is with the putter, you're doing something halfway right.

now once you start chasing lower scores... either get better at what you like to hit, or master more shots and be able to use more of those data points city is referring to to your advantage. but if you have a clusterfoxtrot of a mindspace, do what you can execute and not more.

# Internet Troll backtracks on harsh chipping stance, regrets actions

"I thought everyone knew Sully was uncoordinated," said Fabb. "Even softening my stance on him just making poor decisions brought out the hate." Fabb will be undergoing High Handicapper sensitivity training and said his words were "taken out of context."

If they didn't upgrade the forums, I'd post the OCRick putting the thread on his back picture I used to have in my attachments.

Just to be clear, I'm not softening my stance on Sully, but rather admitting that nobody cares about my stance on... well, pretty much anything.

I'm not issuing a cookie cutter apology, crafted by a PR firm, like ole Bobby Kraft just did over the whole FL tug gate case.

I agree that getting a dependable chipping option isn’t rocket science and doesn’t require you to have the hands of Seve. I do think recent conditions have been extreme in terms of green side chipping difficulty, and that’s really the issue that’s driving the conversation.

I however could care less about a prov1 review because we’ve all played some iteration of it throughout the years and it’s annoyingly expensive.

Had the range for about 15 minutes before all the high school teams took it over. Video taped my swing- after dry heaving I realized what sort of feels I need to work on ASAP. Definitely found my distance leak.

I wasn't planning on playing due to the wind but went out and got 9 in. Sweet Jesus, the new Z-Star is a long ball. I was hitting it next to a ProV1 and it was sailing by it.

Also, I never thought the day would come but I think I'm going to not be playing X100s for the first time. My one day old Nippon experiment went really well in the conditions and gave me a slightly better ball flight to boot.

It was a 2017 model, so you're safe.

If it was actually an XV though, no chance.

> I'm psyched for it. Not as much as I was for gotg3 if Gunn stayed on board.

According to the inter webs, Gunn was rehired March 15. Though I think production is delayed because he is doing a Suicide Squad film before GOTG 3.

Here's the results for that college D3 tourney at OCGC Newport Bay. I feel really bad for the University of the Sciences.

http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=17602

I'm getting a mental picture of the University of the Sciences coach- closet alcoholic, overweight, pretty hard life. Mutters to himself, never smiles. Starts off team meetings with, "Well, let's try not to finish last this week..."
