My game has been a struggle all year this year, ended the season at a 13.6 hc. Had it down to a 9.4 at some point last summer. I find myself grinding to break 90 more often than not with many ugly rounds these days. Woodmore is a tight, relatively unforgiving track that has taught me a lot about my weaknesses. Fast forward to today, first own ball round in weeks at Worthington. What do you know I’m smashing the ball straightish off the tee, hitting greens, and hitting some decent putts. Went 39/43 with a double on 9 & 10 and a 2 putt bird on 13. Wanted to get out there to check out the joint before my Colony Collapse champ match against Mark R this Sunday. Hopefully I can replicate some of the things I was doing!

How many folks here work from home all the time or some portion of the week?

My office is now two minutes from my home, but i've started to work from home more and more as my role in the company is not very static for now. I'd probably say i'm 70/30 in the office / wfh / work from the road.

My old company was big on work from home overall, but recently had some initiatives to encourage office work. I actually tried to change to an entirely different job in the old company and was the number one choice, but they after-the-fact decided I would need to move to their location if I wanted it. Probably would have still been there if that was remote.

Being office centric is kind of a tech fad. Silicon Valley does it so others jump on. Most other companies outside that bubble are going more remote.

Royal New Kent is worth a day trip. If you like Tobacco Road and Mike Strantz, it's a must play imho.

I agree Eagle. Between that and PH4 for the course I played in 2019 that I enjoyed the most*.

 

*I had the full swing yips for the last 16 holes of PH2, so that may play into it.

 

On that note, NLU's podcast with Brendan Todd has me way deep into the Bradley Hughes Youtube catalog today. I see so much of Monte's teaching in there, just some different thoughts and feels that I feel like I might be able to relate better to.

For me, it had the feel of a mellower TR. Same concepts, just 25% less. And no waste areas.

Basically, it's a different painting by the same artist. Distinctly Strantz. Some of the new housing intrudes a bit, but nothing ridiculous. Also, it's an impossible walk. Really long transfers between holes. A sprawling golf canvas.

 

Grasses were similar if not exactly the same as TR. It was playing fast n firm. I don't remember it being this way when I played it a long time ago... Much prefer it just like this.

 

Beauty of a day.

Huge amounts of local knowledge comes into play. Some greens slope front to back, and are damn near impy to hold. Think #5 at PB Dye. They have a free app which give you a chance to check out carry distances, and "aiming sticks" when you have no idea where to go. And yes, Kent, the 150 stake is a good target most of the time when you're undecided.

I ended up with a few great looks at bird (made one) off of blind shots, which is a nice feeling to have. Youre just driving up to the green, thinking that you hit your number, and lo n behold, you've got inside a 10 footer. Don't really get that on the reg at other courses. Of course, you might also hit what you think is an ok shot, and just watch it roll and roll and roll away farther and farther from the hole. Like I said, local knowledge would go a long way.

 

Endless and I had talked about making a side trip to RNK on the way down to PH. It's 20 mins off the 295S Richmond bypass. Would definitely be worth it.

Looks so good right now.

It will be interesting to see how their decision to go to Bermuda greens holds up. Its the one decision they've made that I'm not 100% sure about. The other day when it was freezing they had to rush out and cover all 18 greens. Its not something you see in this area, in fact just racking my brain early on a Friday - I dont know of any course in the area with Bermuda greens. Typically its just a southern, hot weather grass on the greens. But they run a golf course and I barely play golf - so I'm sure they know much better than I do.

I slid out of a symposium yesterday to hook up with my buddy at Worthington. Teed off around noon. Great day to walk yesterday. The course is in fantastic condition. greens are rolling pretty fast and smooth. 81 with 3 birdies, 2 doubles, and a triple. Best part though, is I beat my buddy (3 hcp) straight up for a beer. Free beer is always good! This might have been my last round of the year. Nothing next week, and we'll have to see if something shakes free in Dec.

Any updates on the championship round of the giant Match Play tournament? Also, just shipped out my DCI 990's, my AP1's, a Hybrid, and a Vokey Wedge to 3 balls golf for the PGA Trade in this morning. I figured I needed the extra cash and second swing doesn't follow the same pricing.

A recap for my experience at the Turkey Shoot went as follows:

Got there decently early, did some pitches and flops on the practice green, did some range work and really worked on my posture at address. The result was probably my best ball striking day of the year, even if our team could not buy a putt with BethesdaRick's money. Frustrations got the best of me around hole 13 after my 15th putt left dreadfully short and the aforementioned putter toss. I'm not proud of it, and I can't take it back. Placed last, oh well, I'll leave it at that.

After I got back home, I emptied the bag of everything and made my decision to sell back the aforementioned equipment. The only two places not currently occupied are the 4 wood, which I need to get a lesson and figure out how to hit it again, and putter. At some point this winter, I'll be shipping the Futura 5 CB to Scotty Cameron's Custom Shop to get it modified to a 35 inch playing length and custom paint work as well as authentication. The Studio Style may, or may not, join it to also be restored.

Oh, by the way, anyone have some Cream Soda?

It all started a long time ago, in a galaxy far a way

 

It started with a few guys that just wanted to talk about our area golf, have meet ups, etc

it has evolved and over the years, which has lead to the old thread closing and new threads created to carry on.

It is a bunch of guys talking about everything from golf to life to the most childish things. It has lead to a golf club being created to have tournaments throughout the year, friendships and tons of laugh

I don’t have a job and I can’t keep up. Used to be on here everyday but now just browse from time to time.
