MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

I've heard of a few courses in PA that have struggled with trespassers, as in people playing golf on the course while it is closed, and local PD has stopped responding. Curious if there are any MD courses experiencing this.

a friend of mine went on a walk at turf last night. there was a family out there playing golf. He was like "hey the course is closed". them "we know" him "well i can't play. and i'm a member! you need to leave". they left ... by going to a different hole.

When golf opens up again, I'm probably taking 2-3 days off from work and playing 36+ every day. I've seen pics from Turf. It's going to be NOICE when it reopens.

I cant wait for our Bermuda fairways to really pop, I think maybe in the next couple of weeks. Definitely been spots of it but I think with the warmer weather, the wind drying things out, its going to really come out soon. I think @ half the bunkers that are under construction have had their new bases poured, sod is going down...should be a pretty awesome spring.

I will say this. Its been awesome having a walking only course. Even the fattest, most out of shape old guys have been out there walking. No cart noise at all. Just been fantastic.

Yes I do. I think aiiyer has them as well.

 

I like them a lot. No complaints. I think the sole design is supposed to be more forgiving. Could be placebo effect, but I've bounced the club into the ball (instead of stubbing a chip) enough times around the green to notice.

 

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think Ceejay just got rid of his so he might have a dissenting opinion

I had one too and liked it, but ultimately stayed with a Vokey K grind, which is very similar in my opinion, but I like the heavier head feel of the Vokey. You can find the OG CBX pretty cheap these days.

I've got 46, 50, 54, 58. I use the 46 for as many shots as possible.

I had borrowed a set from a friend to try out and liked the wedges. Very forgiving on full shots. Good on short pitches/chips especially if you use the bounce and awesome from the sand.

Back to my Bridgestone wedges though - no clue why!!

I had the OG CBX and they were great. Super forgiving club. It was just a little too thicc for my liking and I wasn't getting any spin. I'm sure the last part is mostly operator error.

I'm the spokesman for PM grind wedges now and everyone should get a 60* and 64* for their bags ASAP.

I'd hit myself in the face with ball with a 64. I'd just use it for flipping burgers or pancakes

 

I used to be able to clip the roof of the NW range with my old Eye2 LW (61*)

Had a 64 in the bag for half of a season. Waste. Sitting in my basement spare club bag.

I agree that most 64s suck, but I had a lot of fun with a 62 degree last season. Right now I’ve had a 58 and a 60 with dramatically different soles and there is a use for both around the greens.

I took the 62 out of my bag after a couple of weeks, it was fun to use but I'm better off figuring out those short shots with other wedges. Put a 5 iron in the bag to help fill that gap instead.

Over the last 4 rounds I have had 9 birdies, none on the same hole and none on the two par 5s. Not having an open range has really brought a lot of inconsistency into my game. No warming up, right to the first tee, not really loose or awake until the 6th or 7th hole, figure something out for the rest of the round.

I'm another couple of work at home weeks from ordering a Toulon Chicago too.

Video game review :

There's this game called "Golf Story". I don't know what platforms it's on, but it's on the switch.

You play a character who starts the game (IIRC) playing golf with your dad, but the goal of the game is to start from a kid who needs lessons and has junky clubs to -- I figure -- become a pro.

It looks like a 16-bit game. And, it's filled with random challenges that you get by talking to characters, sometimes they're very golfy, like you need to play a hole hitting only the sand and the green, but sometimes they're weird. . .like hitting fish food to fish, or using your wedge to dig holes around the course to find hidden objects. One time you need to drill a kid whose mother is looking for him to get his attention.

The golf itself is basically line up the shot, click the button, click again as the slider moves to select the power, then click again to get the ball started on target. You can move it and spin it but I'm unclear on the details. I'm trying to get a guy to give me a lesson and I haven't got there yet.

But what's kind of funny about the game is that they definitely got some serious golf geeks at the writers table. All the things the characters say to each other are authentic golf things. Like someone on the range going, "I really should be working on my wedges, but I just love hitting the driver". The greenskeeper is screwing up the practice green. There's one dude who brags about how far he hits it on the simulator. There's one guy who just wants new clubs. And, there's a lot of times in the game where characters get absolutely drilled by golf balls.

Anyway, if you're looking for some Corona-shutdown gaming, Golf Story. I'm through 1.5 courses right now. My home club is going to have a match against another club, and I'm on the team.

Speaking of 'boutique' putters (I know Toulon operates within Odyssey now). Have any of you guys rolled a putter from Goodwood? Custom carbon steel putters finished in Baltimore.

I rolled one of his at 2nd Swing in Columbia a while back when they were still open, really impressed with the feel and classic looks. The guy who operates it is also real friendly, I had a few back and forths on the interwebs about what he could do stamping wise on the various models.
