Champ’s putting style

I’m unsure where Champ stands on putting stats but noticed one thing about his putting style that I just haven’t seen in many other pros.

 

Champ on his follow through appears to abbreviate or cut off the follow through just after hitting the ball. Normally there’s this flow through the ball, but not with this guy. Literally stops the club after impact.

 

Can’t see the advantage or disadvantages of doing so but thought it was interesting.

From the little that I have seen, it looks to me that he has a very "poppy" stroke and once he strikes the ball the actual stroke is done. I play with a few guys who are very similar and seem to have good results. Guess it's just what works for him.

Not many players pop it, but yeah Sneds is the best or most well known. I didn't notice it as much for Champ. However his strokes gained really isn't great for everything other than off the tee (which is amazing obviously). He has lots of potential and has won already. Wait till this year is over to see where he ranks amongst the young guns. Xander is the most unlikely (looking) contender being a guy you could see on the course with the same build, but has a kick a** game.

If you shoot pool and have a shot with a lot of green the best way to hit straight is to hit the cue ball and recoil the tip instead of a long flowing motion. I guess I can see how maybe that could work with putting.

What are you basing that on? Not trying to be difficult or awkward but it is not something I have heard before so simply looking to expand my knowledge.

To my eyes it looked like he was even lifting the club on the follow-through.

It's been measured in tour players and that is what happens.

Obviously Snedeker but Rickie Fowler has a similar stroke and release. Also, it was popular before with Arnold Palmer, Gary Player.

Putting stroke is a pendulum right. So where is velocity highest? Directly at the bottom, you want to very slightly hit up on ball ideally putting so club is going to be decelerating.

Lucas Glover also pops at it, although I believe it is highly unintentional on his part.

In the '70's Tom Watson had a pop stroke that won him quite a few tournaments. You don't see pop strokes that much today due to the improvement in the condition of the greens versus in 35+ years ago. Lots of players back then used a pop stroke. It works well but takes quite a bit of practice.

His stroke has a twitch in it, due to the fact he’s nervous his ole lady is going to take the kids and publicly humiliate him again lol. (Glover may have one of the most underrated full swings on toor)

This is just a language-logic problem. Pinhigh asserted that all good players decelerate. That does not mean that all players who decelerate are good players.

 

(I have no informed opinion on whether or not the statement is factually true or not, I'm just commenting on the language of the argument.)
