Depends what you mean by 'Keep up' and how Old School you want to go.

There have been some tests on such a thing:

https://Not allowed because of spam.co...est-big-bertha/

https://Not allowed because of spam.co...e-r7-superquad/

The only Old School drivers I reckon will match a modern driver distance-wise are the Callaway ERC+ and the Taylormade SLDR.

Why doesn't anyone put a new shaft in an old driver. I believe shaft tech has out advanced driver tech

I've been working on exactly that. Currently testing a SLDR 430 with a G7 Attas and a Hzrdus black. If i ever buy a new driver, probs in the spring, i'll let you all know what's tops.

Another Titleist, 910 range, D2 or D3

If I recall correctly, you were one of the few (like me) who stuck with the 910 for all these years right? But I see now in your sig that you play the TS3. If so, is it truly an upgrade?

I am still having a hard time finding anything more consistent than my 910 D2 w/ VC 6.2 TS.

Still bagging a 983K since the end of my freshman year of high school in 2003 (4th head and probably 6th shaft). I remember playing a ton of golf that June to try to get used to the massive head size after playing the 975D for so long before that, and thought it would never happen.

Two years ago I messed around with shafts and hotmelt (hot glue) to optimize my launch and spin with the 983K because I could not find anything I felt comfortable with. Shortly after I got it where I wanted I was giving a lesson at a local golf course just as they were setting up for a demo day. One of the reps came up to me after and introduced himself and asked if I was interested in trying any of their drivers. I told him I was happy with my driver, and when he asked what I played he laughed in my face and told me I could do better, and he guaranteed me he could have improve my numbers within 5 minutes. I thought he might be able to since I never really had it on a launch monitor, so I obliged. Two hours later I had three different manufacturer's reps all trying to find a combination that could outperform my old beater, but they couldn't. It honestly surprised me a little, but boy it really had those guys scratching their heads.

Some of the older drivers are just going to be near impossible to tune to perfect launch characteristics for you, but if you are able to they will perform with any new driver on center strikes. However, newer ones will be much easier to tune and obviously much more forgiving on off-center strikes. I will still try every year, but for now I will just keep plugging away with my 983K.

Timing of this forum is perfect.

I have an RBZ Tour Driver with Proforce V2 Shaft and i think i stumbled across my perfect combo. I decided to "upgrade" a few weeks ago to a GBB Epic Sub-Zero and after multiple shaft changes, I still can't get close. At a recent Titleist Demo day, I spent an hour with the rep and tried lots of combos against the RBZ (I won't say all combo's as he didn't have everything here in Singapore), but nothing could get close. In the end, he apologised and said best stick with it.

I wasn't fitted for the RBZ and just got lucky with the fact that I got a V2 for next to no money, that for some reason suits me perfectly. I'm in the US in June so will go for a full fitting then but right now, i'm selling an Epic (Which I love the look of) and keeping an RBZ (which is losing it's whiteness by the day)

Buddy seemed to hit this driver well until it broke the last time we played;

Callaway ft-9 draw with stock shaft (2009, golf digest silver ranking)

I've personally used these drivers for a year or more each and they are still comparable to what i currently play;

Callaway razr hawk tour (2011, golf digest gold ranking)

Taylormade r360 xd (2003)

Currently I use the razr fit xtreme from 2013 but that isnt old school. I really liked the razr hawk tour before it broke. I loved the shape, size, sound, and feel of the r360 driver. That smaller head driver inspired a lot of confidence. It belongs to my brother now.

There's nothing in the rule book that says you can't play drunk.

Been playing a Nicklaus ML4 Driver (His last) since 2012. Try several new ones each year. Nothing has dethroned it.

I liked your post and don't even know what that is. Photos

Wish I could. Just moved and didn't have room for my bag in the car -- so I'm assembling a new one. I've secured irons but still looking at drivers, which is what drove me to this thread. I've not seen one on ebay for about a year. It's a cannon.

Here's an old review with pix by Sakman:

I have the same issue, I have the RBZ Stage 2 in 10.5* and no current driver on the market by the top manufactures comes within 12 yards of it on Trackman LOL.

Been trying to find that driver in left hand for quite a while. Not even sure they made one. I know they made the ML3 in left cause I have it. Always liked the look of the ML4 though.

The answer is yes.

I took my 910 to GC and hit it along side the 917, M4, TS2, and Rogue.

My 910 was right behind the TS2 in terms of overall performance.

Anyone who spends money on a new driver and thinks they’re going to gain huge amounts of distance will be sorely mistaken.

I watch my playing partners throw their money at the shiny new drivers almost every year. Their scores and driving performances never change. While my 910 seems to consistently out preform their stuff. I always like trying their shiny new toys on the range just to see if anything earth shattering has been released, and it never seems to be the case.

Those clubs won't keep up with the modern stuff based on their COR alone. Don't get me wrong, I got a 975D myself with a EI70 and like the feel and sound but doesn't go as far as my other newer clubs in my stash (which says a lot since most of my drivers were mostly made in the past 15 years).
