Grinding Kyoei blanks - Follow the journey!

Did my 8 iron this morning.

Getting a lot better at keeping the same process being leading edge, hosel, topline, toe, trailing edge, muscle thinning for weight. Then a buff to blend it all.

I've got 2 more to go and my set will be completed.

Are these from Kyoei as well?

Looking good man. Started my wedges yesterday.. going to order the irons next month.

What did these weigh when you got them? How about when you finished?

So are you so far just kinda grinding them to suit your eye or taking them out and hitting them and grinding them based on playability?

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but for me it's about how they look to my eye. I love the sqaure thick topline as I'm a sqaure toe iron player.

As long as they look right, and swing weight is reasonable, I'll hit them as good or bad as any other club.

Yeah the same TSG batch

They tell you weights online. I think I have the table.

As for finished, I'm going off the kyoei proto mb specs they have online on TSG. Good starting point.

I left my wedges around 318g head weight as I like heavy wedges to smooth out my chipping and pitching.

It's interesting seeing this thread as I haven't been own the forum all last week due to vacation. Was wondering if anyone else ordered these iron heads. I ordered the wedge heads last month after they came back in stock on Tourspec web site at 20% off black Friday price and the 25% off suckered me in on the iron heads this past week.

I got my iron heads in yesterday and ground the 4-6 today. I'm also using this KK MB head weight chart as a reference but keeping them a little heavier. The 4 is -14g, 5 is -12g and the 6 is -10g from the raw completed weight.

The wedges I ground down last month and finally got to play this past week on vacation in Florida. Happy so far with the weight and grinds.

I have to find where I wrote down the finished weights of the wedges as I don't want the pw ending up being heavier than the gap wedge.

Just be careful with your weights being too heavy. I ground my 4 iron and loved the look of it but realised it was going to be E8 or some crazy SW.

I kept mine a few grams heavier than Kyoei specs but they are on the heavy side to begin with.

Pure clubs but. Share some photos of the shapes you made!

Great work so far!!

I also bought irons and wedges

Here are some of the ones I've finished so far. It's a great process. I'm not skilled at all but it's been fun.

Kept my wedges a little rounder and the irons I've tried to keep a boxy look, especially the top line as I love the sqaure edges.

I know nothing about grinding, but these do look really nice shape wise.

OP, awesome thread and look forward to seeing more pics as it progresses. I saw these TSG and thought about buying them but again I know nothing about grinding.

Good luck to the both you!

I play graphite shafts so I'm hoping it will kind of, sort of won't be too off the charts swing weight wise. The fun thing will be experimenting. If they are too heavy I'll grind away some more.

I think the most fun part for me would be deciding how to stamp each and every head.

Awesome.

I've installed (not yet glued) modus 120 TX and at the Kyoei mb weights they are swing weighting about D5/D6. But I love the feel of them so far so will play and see.

Can't wait to see what other people do to these

The first pic is the iron set before they were ground. The second and third pics is the 8 iron and the last is the 4 iron before I relieved the sharpness a bit and ground the sole with 1000 grit. All the grinds to the irons are the same as humanly possible.

I grind with 120 grit 1x30 belt and the tiny grind marks are with a dremel with sanding barrel. The final sole polishing is with a 1000 grit belt on my 1x30 sander.

I have to get some more Dremel attachments to polish the backs a bit more.

Ok. So are people using a belt attachment, or is a 1x30 belt sander good enough? I have an old wheel grinder, but I can't find a large attachment for it. It would cost more than I want to spend to get an attachment or a bigger belt sander. I can pick up the 1x30 belt sander at HF for the right price... Will that work?!? Anyone else have any suggestions on what grit they are using?

I've modified some wedge grinds using the HF 1x30 belt sander and it was okay, but I can't imagine shaping iron or wedge blanks with it.
