I'll use the wheel if I need to remove a lot quickly. I do most of my grinding with 100, 120 and 1000 grit belts on the 1x30. I'll do all the irons in 100 then change out and refine with 120. To get grid of the sanding marks from the other grits I put on the 1000 grit belt. I'll put on a new 1000 grit belt for every iron.

This thread is making it very difficult for me to not purchase those blanks. I'm terrified that I will screw up ONE and then I'll have flushed $350.

The main thing is slow and steady. And at the end of the day, they won't be perfect. But if they are the rough right weight then they'll swing like any other lump of metal on a metal pole.

Good fun anyway

I'd wait until they have another sale. The holiday sale they were 25% off with a code. That brought them to $262.50 plus the $75 shipping. Got them for $337.50 shipped.

Regular price is $350 plus $75 USPS. ($85 for UPS)

$75 shipping! good Lawd. LOL. I havent ever bought anything from Japan before so I had no idea. I knew it would be high, but I was thinking high like... $35-40. Its just the heads too!

Good thinking on the sale. I'll wait and continue my Opinder inspired project. I don't need more metal dust around my garage right now anyway.

The best part? They ship out of WA. I’m assuming we pay for the shipping from Japan to WA.

That's what I'm trying to figure out if they are shipped from Japan, to Washington then to your state or drop shipped from WA. Tracking was from Kirland, WA to Seattle, WA to my house.

All I know is shipping is quick. Placed an order last Wednesday night around 9pm when I was on vacation and got them delivered Saturday when I got home to PA.

The box had "raw irons" written on the box in english but had Japanese newspaper stuffed in the box to take up space.

So you haven’t had prior experience and they turned out that well?? Congrats! Now I need to snag a set

I've ground some wedges before but not a whole iron and I wouldn't say I'm a 'handyman' by any means

Haha. Wait. So I could drive 15 minutes to Kirkland and pick them up? Too bad there is zero chance in hell they let me do that. So, forged in Japan, shipped to WA for a stateside ditributor and then shipped to wherever?

It's gonna suck to pay $75 shipping for it to get sent a few miles.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had these in play for a few rounds now and really liking the shape and feel. The heavier swing weights have also been good for me.

They are starting to rust up nicely as well.

Could you tell me where you got the belt attachment from?

Thank you.

I have harbor freight belt and wheel mentioned and I dont think it would be sufficient to grind an iron.....I only use it for prepping steel tips and finishing ferrules.....not alot of power

The machine above looks more like the tool you would want

Home depot has a JET sander like this online

You can get them many places but here is the one from Eastwood. You can probably find it cheaper

You already have the z545 irons. You don't need anything else.

NEED? No. WANT? Absolutely. I emailed TourSpec and they said that the shipping price could be altered because of my proximity. At this point I'm saving my pennies for all the Jordan and AM1 drops coming up. Who knows, might pick them up later in the season. But like you said, I have the z565 irons and I'm hitting them better than i ever have so far this offseason.
