I'm going to get out there for this one of these weeks. I keep getting sidelined by family obligations. Looking forward to getting out there soon!

Lovely weather for summer! About to head to my kids swim meet that was delayed then head out early to play at 1040. I hope the Ridge doesn't have any issues with full ski or hunting gear as golf attire ?

Was supposed to play yesterday but had to cancel due to weather. Decided the casino was a good backup plan but that didn’t go so well either. Supposed to play couples league this afternoon but we’ll see if it rains all afternoon again. Could be my first golf free weekend in quite some time and I don’t like it one bit

I got in 18 in the morning at Murphy yesterday, it was great, although the wind got pretty ridiculous for the last few holes. As if they aren’t hard enough without 30 mph winds!

Then we stupidly decided to play another 9 right after and got killed by rain/cold/wind. Was pretty miserable at times but we got the 9 in. Saw the forecast for today and said nope, not even going to try.

My "money" league played Murphy yesterday, with our groups teeing off from 10 a.m. through the 11 a.m. hour. We hit major wind (2-3 clubs worth) and cold (a wet cold, not typical CO dry cold) in our round. Right after we all got off the course it was mostly sunny and warmer... great timing on our part. Murphy definitely plays much tougher with high winds. Guys were blowing up on lots of the holes.

We ended up canceling our round at the Ridge Saturday morning, which bummed me out since I haven’t been playing much lately. It was the right call though since they announced that morning it would be cart path only and the bad weather would have eventually gotten us on the back 9. I was hoping to get a warm up round before my men’s club match play yesterday morning, but so be it.

For my match yesterday at GVR, I just wasn’t feeling it to start. Drove the ball well, not missing a fairway on the front, but couldn’t hit an approach shot to save my life (couldn’t miss with my driver and hybrid at all). After 10 holes, I found myself 4 down – ouch! On 11, I finally started to get my game back, but really couldn’t make up any ground since he was playing well too, so I was dormie after 14 holes. I continued playing well hitting every green in regulation holes 11-18, and he started to feel the pressure, pushing the match all the way to 18. I thought for sure it was going to extra holes since he was in a terrible position on the green and was going to require a miraculous 2-putt to save par – I was 12ft for birdie. He really couldn’t have done better with his first putt, leaving it about 10 feet away. I made a good putt, but it leaked just right, but I was in for par. He ended up sinking the 10 footer to put me away. I can’t be too upset at it since I gave it a good run and turned things around.

Despite the crappy start, I finished the final 8 holes +1, hit 13/14 fairways (the one miss was just off the fairway too), and 10/18 greens, which is encouraging to finish with an 84 or 85. I putted fairly well though no birdies fell on the day. I thought my streak of good play caught up to me and was ready to revert back to my normal crappy game, lol. Hopefully I can keep this up.

Off to Michigan and Canada soon to be humbled to play at sea level. Trying to get on at Glen Abbey near Toronto, where they’ve hosted the Canadian Open 28 times, or some other fancy course.

I can't imagine playing some of those holes out there in high winds. That course is hard enough on most days!

I was on the range around that time. It was blowing but living out there I guess I have just become used to it LOL

The wind was brutal at Murphy yesterday. On 9, my match play opponent absolutely roped a driver right at the pin, but it caught the wind, ballooned in the atmosphere, and landed in the canyon in front of the green. I crushed a drive, much lower trajectory, and I got it out there 260yds almost pin-high to the right of the green. Flipped a LW to six feet above the hole, and snaked a scary birdie putt into the hole. It was all for naught. I was 2-up with 2 to play in my match. I then proceeded to lose the next two holes and then the first sudden death 1st hole.

Since I'm now a grumpy old man, I need to start doing a much better job taking care of myself on the golf course. I woke up late, and I had breakfast (bacon sandwich and coffee) as I was driving up to the course. My weather app said that it was going to be sunny and 50's, so I left all of my rain gear at home. I was wearing a slightly insulating compression shirt under my golf shirt and shorts. I didn't eat or drink anything during my round. When the wind and rain came in, I was totally unprepared. Fortunately, it wasn't awful until the 8th hole, and I was able to grab a fleece blanket from my car at the turn. By the 16th hole, my hands were really sore, and I had trouble making full swings. I should've gotten a candy bar and Gatorade when I had a chance from the beverage cart.

I did something similar when we went to play Keystone. Rather than being smart and throwing my pullover in my bag (to make matters worse, it was in my trunk), I figured I would be ok. Of course the weather got cold, and once you're cold, it's pretty hard to recover. One would think I would know better at my age, but alas, I think the dumb gene is embedded in my DNA!

Registration for this closes Sunday. Still 40 spots open. I know a few people mentioned they were interested. I created a cowrx team which I assume will put us together if you specify that team when registering. Here's a direct link to sign up under that team:

I wish I could take a weekday off to play golf.

On another note, I saw that Heritage Eagle Bend is offering a $40 twilight (after 2:30pm) rate including cart. Looks like a pretty good deal.

Heritage is the best twilight value in my opinion around Aurora/South Denver, but the course can get pretty backed up. Last time I was there we flew through the front 9 and then caught up with 3 foursomes all waiting on the same par 3, first one on the back 9. We bailed rather than waiting.

I didn't realize you already had a team. A buddy and I will be out there as well. Hopefully we can at least meet up on the range or for a beer after!

I have a 4some from the expo I need the use there. Maybe I should try to do 36 holes with the twilight rate it would only be $78 each...that’s also a long day at HEB

I really wanted to play in this, but I couldn't justify the $400 that they were asking for 36 at CommonGround. Also my swing is in shambles so I wasn't super excited by the prospects.

Along the lines of swing being shambles, I went to see Kelly at South Broadway yesterday. He has me working on some pretty extreme moves to get my speed back and more shoulder tilt, theory seems to be a lot like George Gankas. Just interested in seeing if anyone has done lessons with him and what the results were. I ended up getting a 4 pack of lessons from him because he was raising his prices today.

I agree that the price tag lead to a little initial sticker shock but I left my old club for a muni this year to play more tournaments and travel rounds so I'm using that for the justification. Should be a good time and I'll make a trip down the hill for some front range golf - I really want to play Bear Dance as I have never been down there - will try for a early afternoon Thursday or early Saturday out there

007 and AJ... I signed up also. Looking forward to meeting you guys there.

I agree the price was a little steep given the venue, but they know they had the market to support it. I think I read somewhere (maybe twitter or Instagram) that Tom Doak will be the Thursday night live podcast guest, so that should be cool.

Good - WRX mini-meetup; perhaps we should plan to meet for the par-3 course before the Thursday night festivities; it seems to be available and included from 4pm-6pm

Yes, I have. He's great. He is very big on focusing on shoulder tilt and shallowing the angle of attack, and I love the way he teaches it. He doesn't force it or chase numbers on Trackman, but uses the video and numbers to show what's working and what isn't. I think my swing has really improved since working with him and I've been happy with the results so far. My game is slowly coming around.

Very much worth it! I played there twice in June and wish I could play weekly. It's a great track.
