I think it's anyone's guess. The Resort probably has some ideas but when I was there they were still excavating the middle of the golf course, hydroseed was down on the southern 5 or 6 holes, and although I'd guess the bases of the greens with grass had been put in I don't know for sure. I'd guess that as soon as they know they'll publish a "hard date" - probably into the growing season next summer or late spring at the earliest, but I'm sure they are thinking of every possible contingency before they offically promote said date. I've worked on some decent sized projects but never a golf course, though.... but, there can be setbacks. For instance, a tractor trailer delivering bagged mulch can flip over into the ditch trying to swing out to get into a driveway. That was the scene at SR when I drove down the beach access.

Not a hard and fast date, but I heard they are trying to get it ready in time for the 2020 US Amateur which starts August 10th. Obviously not for the tournament but in order to promote it and build hype... as if it will need it

When I sent them a message they said Spring 2020. With that in mind and it seems like everything construction related has setbacks so we are planning early fall.

When SR opens, what are your course rotations going to be? We only play 6 rounds, so we're probably going to play it twice. The debate will be whether or not we drop OM to double up on PD or Trails.

With only 6 rounds until I've played the SR a few times, I'll probably double it up, then one each on the other 4, one extra wherever it happens to work out. This is based on having already played the other courses 10 to 12 times each now with multiple trips under my belt.

 

My real answer is I'll probably start doing longer trips to add additional rounds.

Hahaha I think for me the correct answer will just be to add an extra day to my trip. Usually have played 6 rounds in 3 days, but I think I need to go 4 for 8 rounds or 5 for 9 or 10 rounds. The more often I go to Bandon the more I realize that I need enjoy as much time as I can there.

my question is. i know sheep ranch is supposed to open next year but how long does it really take for a golf course to kind of grow in a bit. what do you guys think?

Thought I'd put it here for folks searching and deciding on trip times... Sheep Ranch will be open to public play effective June 1st 2020.

That's how it came up, just booked an April trip and asked - I assume it's still to early to book SR - she said yes but they were just informed June 1st is the date... I didn't follow up asking if that means from this morning it can be booked.

If you know your dates already, it would be worth a ring to confirm.

Reservations went live this morning and was able to snag a tee time. They were anticipating a lot of calls this morning so they have extra staff on hand to handle the volume. They also said they sent out email notifications (in batches) announcing the opening of the course but I never saw that come through my inbox.

Just my luck. I'm there until May 31st. Thankfully, I'll still have plenty of great courses to play and a reason to go back.

That's it. Next April will be my 10th or 11th trip... there will be more.

I saw the updated post on the SR opening this morning and went ahead and made a reservation for next November...can't wait! In the meantime...looking forward to my annual winter trip later this year w/my old man.

Hope no Bandon employees are reading this thread, my buddy and I will be there this Feb, how hard would it be to mistakenly play SR:) Security, fencing? Of course we wouldn't want to do any damage, just sounds like it's playable and will happily pay.

Planning a trip this summer. First time. Only have time for 5 rounds, want to play PD twice. What course do I leave out? This threw a wrench in things. Could just pretend it’s not there and play the other 3.

Third round of the day is free so you can always throw PD or SR in at the end of the day if you have time and still do PD 2x. We are going in July so sun goes down close to 9 so hoping to do 54 holes on one of the 36 days.

Oh, I'd forego a replay on any of them to make sure I got out on SR.

How far out do they start taking reservations? Need to plan something for 2021 as my 2020 schedule is already shot (WI Trip and then a vacation with the wife).

They seem to have settled in to opening up the following year on Jan 1. If they stick to that, this coming New Years Day 2020 you'll be able to book for all of 2021. February weekends will be gone first.
