It's such a soft field, Jim Nantz won't be there.

It's always funny seeing the "tired of seeing all the same guys every week" crowd quickly turn into the "this field sucks!" crowd.

Yeah, JDC doesn't have the strongest fields but we've seen guys like Spieth and Dechambeau win in recent years. Chico was a runner up last year. Plenty of these young kids could shoot up the OWGR the way they've come out firing. I'm excited to see them all.

Cameron Champ has nowhere near the pedigree of Wolff, Hovland, and Morikawa. The people who crowned him the next big thing do not pay attention to non-PGA Tour golf, as nothing in Champ’s playing background would indicate “the next big thing.”

Champ is a pretty standard young prospect who hits it very far. He is a raw tools guy.

These guys are elite prospects with fully formed games, however, and Wolff’s background is bordering historic.

These guys didn’t come from nowhere. Many people have been watching these guys play for a long time.

I'm not saying your are.

I'm just providing the facts, no matter what the "promoter" of the tournament may say on radio, these are the facts.> @mjen43 said:

Now you realise he's won on the PGA TOUR right?

Champ won a weak event and has been missing cuts recently. I hope he has got over his back injury too. Funny how people dislike Wolff's swing but don't mind how Champ wrecked his back with his. It's a weak event, the promoters know it, and that's why Choi's there. But nothing wrong with young guns winning this and getting some PGA status for next year and on. Not all tournaments are the masters, and this will be fun in it's own way.

We go to the Waste Management open every year and that's a pretty cool experience, but living an hour away from Deere Run and getting to play up there a couple times a year going to watch the pros play there is really cool. Makes me realize how much better than a regular golfer they truly are haha.

I am watching the live coverage and I have to say that watching Wolff play, and having watched the 3M, I feel that the pond is about to turn over on the PGA tour. We are seeing Phil and Tiger start to fade off into the sunset of their careers. Of course they both can still win, but there is a good group of exciting young players hitting the tour. I like it.

yea, at the john deere, you can get really close and intimate with the players. Going to this tournament is one where I really see how much better they are than us because there are such good views. They also run it extremely well, last year they were handing out free beer samples of michelob right next to this perfect viewing spot, I just kept going back when I needed another beer, lol. I mean what tournament gives out free beer?

I spent nearly all day at the tournament over the past 2 days, and got to watch Ho Sung Choi play the final 5 holes of his first round yesterday. I have to say, simply in terms of ability to post a respectable score, he was a way more legitimate choice of a sponsor's exemption than a number of players I could name. On the drive-able par-4 14th, he hit a fantastic tee shot that put him maybe 12-14 feet past the pin, which he promptly holed for eagle, much to the delight of the crowd. Gave himself very makeable birdie putts on the next 3 holes, lipping out or burning edges each time. On 18, he played the approach as if he'd played this course 100 times before, and knew exactly how the ball would react off the slope, as it cozied up to around 18", which left a very simple tap-in.
