X forged PW is 45*, seems pretty modern, aka strong lofted, to me. A slightly bigger clubface, mostly taller from what I can see, would be a apex pro or apex.

Hopefully something similar will hit the states.

At least on here it wouldn't. The whining about how everyone should play a 60* PW would fill 500 pages and the guys saying they don't need to hit a 7i 250y would be rampant. I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of those players a) suck compared to the level they say they play at and b) wouldn't know the difference anyways. I've fit enough good players to know and see that a good player will hit any 6i, regardless of loft, the distance it should go for them. Good players adapt. Hacks don't. I for one, am in the hack camp.

As for the X-Forged and modern lofts, there are already so many of these types of clubs now. Apex/Apex Pro/Epic Forged, Srixon Z785, Honma 747V, Mizuno HMB/MMC, Cobra Forged Tec Black, Ping I500. It's a nice market idea, but it's also a market that is currently flooded and Callaway already has 3 irons that fit snugly in that category. Not to mention they'll likely have something kind of close in the Maverick Pro, making a 4th. My guess when they bring out X-Forged 2020 or 2021 it won't be much of a departure from what they have had since the inception of the X-Forged line (smaller topline, traditional-ish loft, lower offset, thinner sole). It is a better player's club after all.

Only new irons are the Maverick lines, the Woods look sweet and so do the new Stroke Lab and Triple Track putter lines, some good new shapes to see. Very excited about the new golf ball as well

I was told no, but you never know. It could be something like the apex dot heads. So it is not really considered a new release but a release within a release.

how much can you really do to update a muscle back? I think all the manufacturers make some name changes and slight tweaks to the muscle and get us pigeons to keep antying up for new clubs when they are basically the same with each release. I game the Callaway MBs and they are SWEET and PURE. No upgrades needed to those bad boys.

And just foir good measure, my last five sets of clubs:

Mizuno TP 9

Titleist 690 MB

Mizuno MP 68

Miura blades

Callaway MB

Those clubs span 20 years of golf and all are buttery and all play about the same. I have been hitting a 5 iron about 190 yards since the 90's and I still do. I think muscle back irons are immune to technology aside from some slight tweaks to the shape of the muscle and then do a little bending to the lofts.

Have you hit the new MP-20s? I feel like they feel softer than traditional muscle backs. May just be a placebo effect of the copper.

Those are far different than the retail version. Looks similar to the variation that Molinari was using. Even the chrome plating looks different (that's one change I wish they would bring to retail). Either give us the raw version in the US or we would settle for a satin chrome.

I'm saying they adapt. They will slow their rotation of the hands a little bit more or less to get it to do what they need it to influencing the dynamic loft. Or if they need it to go 175 they can flight it a certain way to get that number much better than amateurs can who rely heavily on my 6i goes 175 without thinking about the different ways to get it to go 175. But yes, more often than not I don't see hugely different numbers out of different lofted clubs. I have a set of New level irons at 28* and a set of 660 MBs at 32* (both 6i) and I hit the 32* MB 170 when struck decently and the 28* one goes about the same. Different flights and shafts and all that but ball speed is almost identical.

What defines being a "good player" and what yardage spread is considered "not hugely different"? If someone is spending money to be fitted and they are looking for certain yardage gaps, I would hope a club fitter, like yourself, wouldn't just say, "it's a 6 iron, regardless of loft, you will hit it your normal distance for a 6 iron." A 4 degree spread in loft should easily see a 10+ yard gap in the same club and shaft. And for "good players who adapt", yes they can but I am pretty sure they don't want to be manipulating their swings to get the yardages they want on a 100% distance shot for that club, or they would want to know what those distances would be. But what do I know, I'm probably someone who wouldn't know the difference.

I've seen as low as 2-3 yards (myself), some are 4-5 where they feel they are still hitting the same club. Others can see upwards of 10+ yards. It really depends how much the player delofts the club. Someone who flips a decent amount at it usually doesn't see more than 3-4 per club unless you do something extreme.
