Currently gaming a 2013 Scotty Cameron GoLo Center shaft putter.  Very intrigued with these L.A.B putters.  Has anyone gone from this type of Scotty to a L.A.B putter?  Does already gaming a center shafted putter make the transition to L.A.B easier?  If you have made the switch mentioned above, tell me about your experience.

I went from a center shafted Odyssey 7 that I forward pressed a fair bit to the DF 2.1 with a Mezz mixed in and it was very easy for me. I really like the Mezz, but with my inconsistent putting stroke the DF is just putting up better numbers.

I do not press at all, zero. So I'm wondering how different the press grips will also feel..

I’ve tried most of the grips and I like the textured no.2.  It basically lines the grip back up where it would be if the shaft didn’t enter the putter head in an onset position.  If you can get anywhere to try one, I would highly recommend it.

Yeah, not a whole lot of fitting centers in Canada.

That’s unfortunate.  I would have to say that if you were comfortable with a CS putter before, then you should really like a Lab. I somehow am left eye dominant only when swinging a golf club and it’s been an enormous improvement for me.  The tech and concept is definitely real. The DF 2.1 is the most forgiving putter I’ve been able to test. I would say to try to snag one in your fit from here and give it a whirl.

The Golftown near me has a decent selection of LAB putters to try out. I assume you've already scoped yours out, but if not, could be worth a shot.

Have not been in store yet, but on LAB site there is one GT that is listed directly from LAB, so going to check that one out when I can

Did you buy through GT or LAB?

Through LAB. Did a couple 30min sessions at GT trying out different putters, comparing them to the LABs they had on hand. When I made the decision I submitted a fitting video to LAB. The remote fitter had me at 35" and 70 lie angle, which is almost right on stock spec (I believe LAB does 69 lie angle as stock). They also added that with the Mezz.1, you can be +/- 1 degree without making a difference.

I could have grabbed one off the shelf, but all they had was black heads with the stock shaft. I took advantage of LABs Outlet Sale to get a blemished one in a fun color with an upgraded shaft (Cappuccino w/ White Accra shaft) for roughly the same price as a stock one from GT. However, without the sale, and without the cheaper Outlet price, would have been more economical to buy through GT.

I've been eyeing that cappuccino color, how does it look in person?  How were the fees for shipping across border?

I posted a few pics in the putter buying thread. To my eye it looks like more of a bronze. Way cooler than a simple black IMO. I'll also add that buying a "blemish" putter turned out great. There's a small chip where one of the screw holes was beveled at the bottom, maybe a MM wide. On the top of one of the fangs there's a slight discoloration of a different shade of the cappuccino, almost like a real faint scratch mark. I only notice it if I go looking for it. Can't see it at all when standing over a putt.

Shipping was $55 USD. I think we also paid around $30 CAD in customs fees on delivery. It's those little things (plus exchange rate) that add up that make GT the cheaper option if all you want is stock lie angle, black, etc.

Haha dang! I remember going back and forth over Mezz.1 or Mezz Max. I knew I wanted this color scheme so when all the Max's disappeared it made up my mind for me!

At least it stayed in the family so to speak 😉

  • 2 weeks later...

In the second half of 2023 I messed around with some "Ricky Fowler" style putters, I converted an old Bettinardi Inovai 6.0 I had to 39 inches, added some tape, and had a Maltby center shafted mallet made up at 39 inches.   I had some really good putting rounds with both of these at times, but some just so so also.

I have been really itching to try a LAB putter though, and today I finally bit the bullet.  I ordered one from the outlet store, a counterbalanced model.   Pretty much what I was looking to custom order anyway as its the exact specs as the Maltby I have, 39  inches 72 degree lie angle, SS 3.0 grip.  Its all black with the Accra shaft. Will be here next week, looking forward to it.

Ordered my Mezz 1 on Black Friday and was finally able to get out on real grass this past weekend for the first time. I rolled a Scotty phantom 5.5 all last year. I was so impressed on how easy it was to roll my ball on my intended line. I can honestly say I missed one line in two rounds. I’m very excited for the upcoming season just by what I saw this weekend. I have been rolling about 100  8’ putts everyday getting use to the feel and function.

the only negative that I have that I would bring to @labgolf’s attention is the pistol grip. I absolutely love the grip but the white shows dirt and wear very easily. Would love to have this is reversed colors to hide the dirt or other color options besides white. Even tho the white sure looks stunning fresh out of the package!

Has anyone returned their LAB putter to get it re-balanced? What was your experience? Considering going a couple of degrees flatter...

Not true - you can't alter the lie angle of the DF 2.1 or B2.

Got my counterbalanced a couple of days ago from the outlet store.

First impression was it was a tad light, it is the "standard" weight, which I thought would feel a bit heaftier.  Overall feel off the face is a bit tingy, I guess that is just the way the Max head is.    Speed control seems pretty good so far.  Haven't done more than a couple times on the putting green and rolling it on my mat at home, but I can see how it works.   Unfortunately, our club did some small punches and sanded our greens lightly on Monday, so the practice green is not very good, and its still February....

I have yet to feel comfortable with where I should play the ball, I know LAB says play it a bit forward, but I can't get really 100% dialed in on how far up to play it.  I also didn't realize that the counterbalanced models have less shaft lean, but that should not really be an issue.

The thumbs off drill is almost magic tho, best strokes seem to be when I work with this.  But that is something I have done a lot in the past with other putters, but the Mezz Max it does start to feel almost automatic.

It will take some time getting used to, but I really see potential, its almost like I have to get out of the putter's way and just let it do its thing.   I plan on getting out a couple of times this weekend, we will see how it does on the course......

Can someone talk to me about the stock shaft on the Link.1? I’m about ready to go ahead and pull the trigger but haven’t given putter shafts much thought in the past. Am I leaving something on the table that I will regret by sticking with the stock shaft?

No. Stock shafts are great. If you are new to LAB, I would start with stock. Once you  are a convert, you can upgrade shafts if desired. I have played stock and TPT. Really not all that different. If you were a committed LAB  fanboi, then maybe would consider an upgrade. I just ordered a DF3 with Accra.

I think it's the metal insert used to aim with.

I've heard that "ting" in the past and again just recently at my local PGATSS. Nowhere near as loud as the original Ping putter :classic_ohmy: but can definitely be heard.

2 identical heads in the store. I held each one face up near the head, took a ball and repeatedly dropped it onto the sweet spot from about 4 inches or so. 1 "tinged" and the other, like the vast majority, did not.

One tinged repeatedly, the other did not. Must be the attachment procedure of the aiming piece.

Shafts - I have the BGT Stability shaft in mine. Distance and direction are still very good and the results are very similar to a SS strike, but it does feel a bit harsh compared to the Accra or the stock steel shaft.

I'm actually thinking of replacing the BGT with the Accra.

Thanks. Sometimes I wonder if all these supershafts do have an effect. But look at my bag - all TPT where possible. I also demoed the TPT putter shaft prototypes and gave feedback for the product. I know being machine made, it's perfect to spec and perfectly round. No more excuses for a missed putt other than operator error.

Figured out an aim fix for my lab. I have the three lines near the face. If I draw a line from the far line to the edge of the cup my putts are always on line. now I can see this working on right to left breaks aiming that at the apex of the break I see. For left to right I presume I need to do the inner line. Will have to get to a putting green and test.

Did anyone here go from the standard Mezz Max to a broomstick or Link? I was having issues with my alignment and kept missing to the right. I moved the ball position and tried to take my hands out of it but no luck. I tried a Link 1 in PGATSS and holed a ton with it. I know it's not a sure sign it will translate to the greens but it gave me some confidence. I'm curious if the forward shaft lean doesn't suit me.

Yes I did exactly that as others have said on here I found the mezz hard to line up on shorter putts. It was so blockish I just struggled feeling like I was getting it rolling online from 8 feet in.

I switched to the link and it's legit the best I've putted...none of the same issues at all. It is an amazing putter but I also ordered a df2.1 and I'll probably try a 3.0 at some point lol.

Good luck
