Did anyone pickup the masters cover that dropped today?

I’d like to congratulate the 16 total people who were able to pick one up.  I was checking constantly for their Masters release

of Course got busy at work minutes before the reveal.  Sold out when I re-checked.

Boo-urns.

I did, yes.  Was looking for a headcover to replace the standard one so the timing was perfect.

I grabbed one too.

my original df2.1 was lifted out of my garage. My replacement didn’t come with a HC so I’ve been holding out. So glad I did. I’ve never been a HC fanatic but I’m proud of my LAB putter so I figured it’s time to dress it up.

I was fit for a DF3 at 34.5/69. So basically stock.

Does it make more sense to buy a 34” and get a 1/2 extension or 35” and cut it 1/2 an inch? Also how easy will the grip pull be or do I need to buy another grip?

Just grip down 1/2”

By the longer one and grip down. If it doesnt work, cut it down. Only is the prize of one grip (dont know if pulling it is possible without destruction.

I have gripped down on my DF ever since it arrived as I needed to widen my stance a little, so I am not standing as tall as with my previous putter.

I would argue do you prefer a heavier putter or a lighter putter? Chances are the 34 in one will be somewhat heavier to accommodate swing weight differences of the shorter shaft. Therefore if you prefer a heavy putter I would go for the 34 and extend it and do the opposite if you prefer lighter

Well, a 34.5/69 DF3 with a white Accra shaft just hit the lab outlet and is now coming my way!

If you cut down a lab it won't be balanced theoretically, right?  I mean you can't even replace the grip with a different lab grip without throwing them off from what I can tell.

You can cut them down. The amount they've quote varies, but it sort of hovers around the 1" range. You can replace grips with identical or similar weight and you won't mess things up too much or at all. I believe they've advised that a decent rule of them is that if your putter still balances toe up on a flat surface then you've have affected the balance.

This is correct. Sam has stated this many times.

I thought I'd write a quick review of the LAB putters I've owned.  I've always been a "good" putter.  I tend to be a 1-3 handicap and average around 29 putts per round.  I rarely 3 putt, but am always looking for more 1 putts and am always tinkering.

Please keep in mind these are my personal opinions and won't necessarily be the same as yours.  🙂

DF 2.1 - I believe this is the easiest of the LAB putters to swing on line and is the most "balanced".  If you are a truly terrible putter and are looking for the most help, this is where I would start.  That being said I think it's awful looking and has the worst feel of the LAB putters I've tried.  It's not bad, just different and I like the others better.

Mezz Max - I like the looks and feel of this one a bit better than the DF 2.1, but I'd still take the DF 2.1 for stability and forgiveness.  It's not a great looking putter but not horrible either.  I can see why this one gets chosen often.

DF 3 - They've done a really nice job with this putter as an evolution of the 2.1.  I think it's the best feeling of the LAB offerings and isn't quite as ginormous as the 2.1.   If I were sending someone to pick up a LAB putter I'd probably tell them to start with the DF 3 all things considered.

LINK - This is my personal favorite of the LAB putters and the one that is in my bag right now.  I just like the look of it significantly better than the others and the shaft being closer to the face of the putter (vs. the significant distance between the putter face and the shaft with the others) just suits my eye better.  I also like the feel of the Link better than the others (except the DF 3 which feels similar but is more forgiving).

LOOKS

Link>Mezz Max>DF 3>DF 2.1

FEEL

DF 3>Link>Mezz Max>DF 2.1

FORGIVENESS

DF 2.1>DF 3>Mezz Max>Link

EASIEST TO SWING

DF 2.1>DF3>Mezz Max>Link

EASIEST TO TRANSITION TO FROM A TRADITIONAL PUTTER

Link>Mezz Max>DF 3>DF 2.1

I believe it's quite a bit easier to jump into the Link (pick it up and start rolling putts) vs. the others.  I believe it's largely because of the larger offset between the putter face and the shaft and the forward press grips on the others.

When I hear people pick up and DF 2.1/3/Mezz Max and roll it a few times or play a round or two with it and have no success, I believe those putters need more than a little adjustment time for most of us than most putters do.  I believe most will need some time and practice to get the most benefit.

As I mentioned, the Link is in my bag but I also still own by DF 3.  I've sold the others.  Time will tell whether I also sell the DF 3 or keep it around.  For now I am making a lot of putts with the Link.

Accra shaft in all of them.  Link had the standard rubber grip but I've since moved to a Superstroke grip.  DF 3 had the Press II 3 degree, but I have been back and forth between it and a Superstroke on the DF 3 as well.

Thanks! Is the press 3 degree a lot bigger then the superstroke?  What superstroke have you been playing?
