Which 2020 Driver Did You Order?

I hit the SIM max at PGA SS yesterday and I thought the feel was awesome, much better than that regular SIM. The ballspeeds were also quite impressive (for me) at around 160. I am a bit concerned with spin and launch with the 9* though as the average spin was around 2100 and launch was 11*. That may be fine on center strikes, but had a couple where launch was below 10* and spin was below 1800. I tried the 10.5 and this brought spin and launch up, but also reduced ballspeed. I may have to order the 10.5 and reduce loft, but that will also open the face, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I didn't try the Mavrik as I just can't have any orange anywhere in my bag (I went to UGA)

Being a lower spin player , I am looking to take advantage of a more forgiving head. I recently tested SIM Max, which looked, sounded, and felt great. Also tested Cobra Speedzone Extreme , which also performed extremely well. Sim was tested with stock Diamana, and cobra with Hzrdus smoke yellow both in xflex. As far as performance goes both drivers averaged 300-305 yds total, but the SIM Max had the potential for a low spin high launch bomb (322 yds total, 17 deg launch, 1500 spin)that I did not get with the cobra. The cobra felt more stable and my misses were less exaggerated. I also prefer the stretched back look of the cobra, which I know I will be in the minority here on that. Both drivers felt great, but SIM wins here For me as it felt a little hotter and not as dead. Still need to try the Mavrik Max, but initial impressions of sitting the club down ... I am not in love with the shape. I am leaning towards the cobra as I like the shape, stability, and ability to get it in matte black. Really impressed with both and would be interested if anyone can comment on the Mavrik Max compared to these, as this is the market I am in.

The crown on my ST-190 was not durable and had scratches all over it. Mizuno gave me a brand new head so I will be playing it again this year. Really enjoyed playing the ST-190 but the scratched up head had me ready to drop $500 on a new driver. Thank you Mizuno for your great customer service. I am going to use that $500 towards a new set of JPX 920 irons this fall. Going to take the leap and go tour in P-7. Excited!

You’re closing in on optimal with the SIM Max. Might want to try teeing the ball ever so slightly higher with the 9 degree, like 1/8 to 1/4 inch, and see if that boosts launch just a little.

I went back again yesterday and hit the 10.5 degree set "lower" one setting and it was better than before, but still not quite as good as the 9 degree total distance. The other thing I learned is that I was using the 70 gram Smoke Green where as I thought I was using the 60 gram. For some reason this particular superstore didn't have the 60 gram or has misplaced it already. Do you think if I went to the 60g it would increase launch and spin a touch?

Maybe a little. Worth trying. Maybe more of a mental difference but don’t discount how that affects your results. It is real. Still, technically speaking, loft and angle of attack will have a far greater impact on launch and spin. Experiment with tee height and ball position and you will see differences

I also like the 60 gram range. Used to play 75 gram driver shafts but as they are so stable now at all weights, I’ve dropped down, even to now using a 59 gram UST Helium with a 194-gram Wilson D7 head (beautiful looking driver at address.) So easy to swing it fast! Swing weight is still D0-D1, so the balance is same as I always play. And I am about to put 85-90 gram graphite iron shafts in play (KBS TGI or Fuji) and my 6 iron SS is 88 mph and driver is 104.

i am looking at the SIM lineup for a 3 wood that is great off the deck but has a deep enough face to look good off the tee as well. Going to try all three heads. The SIM driver head shape that caught my eye is the D-Type that Keegan Bradley just put in play.

Interesting... I want to try the new one first... I generate tons of spin, so the new low spin head interests me.

honestly, I just need to get fit for a driver.

Ordered a SIM with Ventus Black, can’t wait to get it. Will prob end up having a Callaway to try too, but SIM going to be tough to beat on sound / feel from what I’ve seen so far.

The 50% extra trade enhancement along with a military discount made this bearable.

I also just ordered a Sim 3 hybrid with the GD Tour AD DI 85 from TGW. They must have an error in the ordering system as they did not charge the $250 extra for the shaft. Will see if it actually goes through.

Was a toss up today between the SIM and Cobra, Mavrik was out early. Didn’t care for the feel and look closed at address on the Mavrik. Ended up going with Cobra SZ Extreme with Ventus black 6x. Such a great shaft that worked well last year and with the different heads this year. SIM was really good but I got the occasional snap hook so opted for the Cobra as it was great dispersion and with a yard of the SIM on average.

Got my SIM Max today and put in the first range session. Moving from a G400 Max the sound is AMAZING! Love the head shape as well as it's significantly more compact and sits nice and square. I've stayed away from Taylormade drivers for the last few years as the thick white / silver stripe just never looked right to me. The new, thinner chalk stripe is significantly less pronounced, and fit my eye immediately.

Can't really comment on distance as I don't have it dialed in quite yet, and have also moved from a 6S to a 7X shaft (I'm right on the boarder from a speed perspective). I felt like I lost a few yards, but improved dispersion greatly. Too many variables at the moment, but I'm beyond happy with the new stick!

I ended up going with the 10.5* with the 70g Hzrdus green. I will likely be playing it in the one lower setting but it's a 1/2" shorter than standard so that should offset the lie angle change at that setting a bit. Arrives Tuesday and will let everyone know.

Received my SIM Max yesterday, 10.5 70g Hzrdus green. I started out in the neutral setting, but that was launching a bit too high as predicted. After a couple holes I lowered it one and wow what a difference. This think just hits high, flat, low spin cuts. I was definitely having a tough time turning it over, and some of that could be due to the fact that I'm playing it 1/2" short in an "open" setting, but if you fight a hook or prefer a ball that moves left to right, you may want to look at this setup.

Is SIM driver similar to the SLDR from a few years back?

I'm a high spin / high launch player and saw that the SIM was super low spin. IIRC, SLDR was super low spin and so fitters had folks loft up. Hope that's not the case here as I just ordered an 8* head. LOL

I also heard SLDR wasn't very forgiving. Hoping the SIM is much more forgiving.

They're similar. I played the SLDR for 4 years and am now playing a 9 degree SIM. I actually got fitted for the 8 degree but ended up going with the 9 degree for a little more flexibility in loft. I'll probably drop the driver up to 9.5 to close the face a bit. I feel that the SIM is just a better version of the SLDR.
