mid definitely say that the USga tries hard to ruin the reputation most years. So I can believe that. For me though. US open trophy or the Jug feels better than a green jacket. Not by much mind you. And maybe I’d sway the other way if I’d ever been let inside the freaking gates ! Lol. I’ll admit to a negative bias towards Augusta for never picking me to attend. Ha!

I feel like the Masters and the British Open are the only two where you are forever part of the tournament. You could win ten US Opens, but as soon as your exceptions run out and you're not otherwise qualified, you don't play or are even part of the festivities.

Quite the contrary. I don't think there should be a 5th major, in fact, I would even go as far as saying dump the PGA and just have the big three. Make the PGA on the same level as the Players.

Masters is limited field and to narrow it more only certain guys seem to be able to win there. PGA is unfortunately still the PGA(until they go back to match play).

I guess my only gripe with that or tie to it’s staying is that 1. Jacks record includes the pga. So we’d either need an asterisk or a deduction of his majors. And 2. All the pga teaching pros who support the game deserve a high goal to strive for. Having had our pro nearly make ( close as 2 shots ) the senior pga twice. I know what a big deal it is/was to him.

There is certainly an entire discussion to be had on the merits of the PGA vs the other majors. But going back to the OP, who had the better year.

Just going by course, I would rank TPC Harding as the least difficult, but in my view, the Open and US Open are more prestigious wins.

The PGA Championship winners are part of it forever. Same as The Open and Masters winners until their respective age limits kick in for past champions. Get back to us when there is a 10 time winner of the US Open or any other golf major. Brush up on history.

Context is so key here. If Player A is Spieth or Rory, it's unquestionably player A, as they would both finish off the career grand slam. If Player B was Phil, that's the winner.

Azinger, Wadkins, and Elkington had decent careers. But come on, the rest of that list. Wayne Grady, Rich Beem, Toms, Shaun Micheal, YE Yang, Jimmy Walker. They got lucky that one week and never came close again.

Grady lost a playoff in the Open. Toms has a 13 wins including his PGA and a WGC. His career is actually almost Fred Couples' in terms of wins and majors.
