Vijay - “Trash”

MattyO1984

Recommended Posts

What opportunities have been lost? Who has caused them to be lost? Are you referring to Vijay about this? We've already gone over that.

The tour has made up a ton of cancelled/postponed events given the circumstances (take a look at the schedule). They've done everything they possibly could in an extremely small time frame to make the best of a bad situation.

Nah - we're kind of going around in circles and probably my fault - like I said, good luck and hope things at least get started up when they think they will.

And please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the Tour, don't begrudge guys who have earned better status having it - it's dog eat dog out there and like someone said the answer is always "play better" - just sympathizing with those at the fringes, those who might have moved up or benefitted from events the past three months and that's all "woulda, coulda" - and this will delay getting to the big show a bit for the guys at the top as well.

Just some COVID angst is all.

As I mentioned earlier, everybody probably has their own threshold of what would constitute an "all time great". Was Casper a "great" player? Of course. But, in my own interpretation, "all time great" represents the absolute best who have ever played, so no, Casper wouldn't fit in there. Neither would Mickelson. But it wouldn't bother me if they fit in that category for you, or anybody else. They're opinions.

My only point about the schedule and players getting missed opportunities is that the tour has done a great job of making up lost events for this current season

i can’t imagine how many moving parts need to be in place for a tournament to happen but they’ve done the best they can

its a sh*t situation for a lot of guys but in the end the game is about opportunities the tour can only give so many and the player can only take advantage of them when they’ve earned or been given them

For fun I totaled up the number of players that currently have some level of KF Tour exempt status that are currently in the first 18 priority categories for the KF Tour. It totals 197 players. This event at TPC Sawgrass will likely have 132 or 144 players. So anywhere between 53-65 currently exempt KF Tour players at a minimum are skipping this event for whatever reason. VJ would be first out of category 19. So the notion that he is taking up a spot for a KF Tour player that has exempt status is so far wrong it's laughable. Sadly people will believe what they want.

People should be asking why so many KF Tour players with current exempt status are skipping this event. The fact that even VJ and others ranked below him can get into this event falls on the KF Tour players skipping the event.

Those players most likely haven’t committed yet due to not knowing all the info for the event. There are about 20 guys who have full status based on finishing in the top 75 last year who have yet to commit. The tour committee is meeting today to pretty much finalize protocol. Once that takes place I’m sure guys will commit since the picture will be a bit clearer for them

Watson is a leader, wants to show people the right way to go about doing things.

VJ is a merc out for VJ. it's not more complicated than that. Phil coming out to defend him is as damning as anything.

The man isn't Trash...he's just who he is. Schnell could've said it a lot better and garnered a lot more support had he not come off like a whiny punk using that term.

I'm just looking at it as a golf fan wanting to see the best every week at each tier. If this young man isn't at that status that week, he doesn't own that opportunity.

Maybe this will make him hungrier than ever and will motivate him to work at his game, earn those starts and make his way to the top of the leaderboard. Heck, maybe he'll be the next ruthless Tiger. As a fan, we can only hope for that.

thought experiment...

sub out VJ....sub in Daly. now what?

VJ's got 2 other tours he can play on. LPGA's got a tour too... he want some of that?

The KFT is not a charitable organization, it exists just like any other professional sport to make money by providing entertainment. All of this "feel good" business about helping up and comers is just sales talk trying to make guys like Brady Schnell, who missed 13 of his last 14 cuts, seem interesting. If Vijay qualifies to play an event he has as much right as anyone else to play -- at least people have actually heard of him before.

VJ's full access to that arguable 2/3rd best tour with limited access to other players doesn't affect your decision even a little?

While I respect and understand where you're coming from, no it doesn't affect my view on it. Vijay is only eligible to play in it if there isn't a higher tiered event he's also eligible to play in. He's exercising his eligibility he's earned to possibly play in this event. Make no mistake, Vijay is not there for the cash. He's there because he thinks he can still win on any tour, and he wants to prep for that in the most competitive environment he can. Professional athlete egos are huge. There's a reason some of the most successful have the biggest ones. They believe they can beat anyone.

on this we are in full agreement - this is all about VJ's ego.

i'd be okay with VJ doing this under one condition - i need a Current Affair to come out showing how broke he is. it was either this or arson. :D
