I’m confused

So, I used to play cobra forged tec but decided to move to jpx hmp. While waiting on the Mizunos to come in I was hitting a srixon combo set (745 4,5 945 6-pw). I found that I was striking the ball and making better contact with the Srixons. This happen to anyone else?

Yup and it didn't last long. If you were fit for the JPX's then go with them as you will see better results over the longterm.

No confusion. You just matched up better with the Srixon Irons. Not everybody needs to play Mizuno, great clubs but not for everybody.

Make sure the comparison is truly an apples-to-apples test. Lots of specs other than the head model can make a big difference in the quality of the impact. Grip size, playing length, shaft weight, shaft stiffness, swing weight, lie angle, etc... The head might influence the set-up a little bit but it doesn't play very much of a role in most of the things that happen between set-up and impact.

I actually have the same irons in rotation (tho different config, 4-7 745 8-PW 945) and find myself very underwhelmed with them given the reviews.

actually they are the 65s instead of 45s. I hit the Mizuno set longer but I feel I get better contact with the Srixons. I played one round with the hot metal pros yesterday and three rounds throughout the week with the srixons.

If you hit them solid with the Srixons maybe you hit the Mizunos just as solid as well, but didn't FEEL like it. Maybe you should put some food powder spray on the irons of both clubs and see if that is the case.

I would go with the ones that I actually play better with. Proof is in the pudding. Unless your playing a lot of golf from tees that stretch your ability level, distance with irons is pretty low on priority. I have seen far more guys in my golf circle messed up trying to play clubs that were ill suited for them that they were "fit" for than I have seen helped by fitting.

Really liked Cobra CBs and Mizuno 919s on mats. great clubs.

loved the Srixon 785s on grass. very different feel for me. confidence is through the roof.

Exactly. Play the ones you play better with. Not the ones you’re “ supposed “ to play better with. Forgiveness only works if the score drops.

CGA raised a valid and intriguing point.Look at the ball marks ob most used irons..centre..toe.

heel which sets impact looks best may tell a tale. Seems Srixon is todays choice,clear in front, so we know others wont like them,

and thats ok.

I’m going to have to play more with both. I think that’s my though is that I should play the mizzys better but I’m liking the srixons. My ball striking is a lot better now than it was a few months ago. I guess I’m cautiously optimistic that I can handle the srixons

It can be any number of things. But I’d double check lie angle , length and swing weights. Not just the swingweight number. Weigh the static weight of each club too. I can get along with a lot of clubs. I hit the ball well. But. Every now and then I’ll pick up a club that I just cannot get on with . Most recently was the 3 iron from my set .... after an autopsy it was discovered to have the only tip weight in the whole set. I took it out and changed the shaft to one that would balance out minus the tip weight. Bingo. Center contact on demand. The shaft itself was 5 grams heavier than the one that works. And it was centered on the butt end causing the need for the tip weight to balance it out. So the tip weight of the club was 15 grams heavier than my 4 iron. That’s huge. Nobodies fault. Just a manufacturing tolerance that I could notice. This is just an example. If it’s the whole set that you just don’t hit well. It’s likely some spec or another that’s a good bit off of the Srixons that you do hit well.

Thanks guys this has helped a ton. I’ve never fully been fit for a set of clubs only the “golf galaxy” fit. I’ll be getting fit next week.

I got fit into the Hot Metal Pros (but on mats) and only bought the PW... Got it on the course and it was fine... nothing great... ended up building a set of Adams CMBs on the cheap and on a whim... Love the CMBs and have been hitting them really well (practice and swing changes have helped).

I don't have any real advice here... golf is weird and equipment is more than the numbers you put up in the store... confidence in clubs is better than a perfect fit.
