PING G710's, who's playing them?

I ordered mine on September 29, along with a Glide 3.0 Eye-2 grind. Got the wedge in early December. I heard from my club fitter last week that the G710s were in production last week and should be shipped this week. If this happens, it will be 3.5 months for me.

Apparently, Ping had a problem getting G710 PW heads.

On Thursday, Spargo called to let me know that my G710s had arrived. I picked them up yesterday and it was above 40* so I went to a nearby range to try them. Although I haven't hit anything more than chip shots since early November, I have to say that I am VERY pleased with the results of my first outing!

I got my set a week ago.  It took nearly two months!  The kicker is that they weren't customized in any way.  At least I have them now.

I love the looks, great high launch, and solid distance.  However, I've noticed that I tend to slice these occasionally, which I didn't have an issue before with my former M2 6, 7 and 8 irons.  I don't understand it.  I must be doing something different with these to cause the slice - I hope I figure it out soon cause I can't have an 8 iron slice.  That's so frustrating.

Hi Orangeman . All my past irons I had a tendacy to pull them left, I got the G710's 3 weeks and love them . Have a shot a 77 & 81 , great a scores foe me but also having the same problem at you . I never sliced irons before and now Im slicing , 5, 6, 7, ....did you find and tweak , solution . This is totally new to me slicing mid Irons , these are the only irons they have happened with , thanks

They say the G425 irons are just as long as the G710, no way. My G700 irons are way longer.

Well they are very similar in loft so similar distance would make sense.

The hollow body construction of the 710 + higher strength & thinner face material should theoretically allow the face to bend more at impact and result in higher ball speed

The Ping G710s might be the best iron ever made by ping in the super game improvement category.  These things go a mile, are as big as a house and can turn a total hack into someone that gets the ball to the hole.  Great job ping and for anyone in the market for an older club that is so forgiving consider these bad boys 🙂

I bought a 7-iron to try, and I hit it far, but too low.  I might have to get it set to Retro loft.

That's strange.  I've never heard of complaints with hitting them too low.  One of the things I love about these irons is that they launch so high (at least for me).  You might want to give them another go.  It could have been just the day - you know, sometimes the swing is on, other days not so much.

I've been playing with them for two years.  I eventually swapped out the 5, 6, and 7 irons for hybrids.  So now, in my bag are 8, 9, PW, W, and U.  I have a lot of confidence in these clubs.  I don't see any need for a change until one day they improve them even more!

I have been trying out 7-irons this spring, and I have both the G425 and G710.  The G425 goes higher (and a bit farther, for me), while the G710 has a more boring flight.  Now, at 70, and after elbow and shoulder surgery, I have lost some punch.  But that is what I have found so far.

I picked up a set of these over the winter to have some fun with and have really enjoyed hitting them.  I have been a long time i and s series player, 6 handicap.  For whatever reason the size and shape of these don't bother me.  There so easy to hit and I can still work the ball each way (enough).  I did have the lofts bent to Retro spec to help with gapping if I decide to just add the long or mid irons to my set.

These just like to fly high and straight and the black finish and grey face hides the size well.

Just curious... what's a boring flight?  Never heard that outside an airport.

With my G710s - 8 iron through Utility, I sky them, especially the Utility (I love that club - it's my 90-95 yard club but will choke down and hit it at even 80-85 yards out).  High ball flight was important to me when I was trying out irons a couple years ago because my home course has greens that are fast and hard to hold.

I owned the G425s at the time that I bought the G710s.  It was during the pandemic so had a lot of time on my hands.  Bought both sets and tried them for a month.  I really liked them both.  The G425 seemed like a chunkier face while the G710 thinner but longer.  I think the fact that the G710s are in black makes the irons appear that way to my eye more than it being the reality.

As for hitting them, I went back and forth on what set I preferred most.  In the end, I went with the G710s.  They look bad a** in black (in my opinion) and I prefer how they look at address.  I also think they may be a tad less clicky on ball strikes.  Either way, you can't go wrong these two sets.

I would describe a boring flight as lower than normal, and great into the wind.  The problem as it relates to irons is that the ball runs out too far after it hits the green.

Update.  Had the G710 bent a degree or so weaker.  Went to the indoor dome and hit that, G425, and Titleist T300 (Tensei AV Blue AM2, regular).  The G710 felt clanky.  I hit the G425 a bit better.  Hit the Titleist the best.  Guess I like the slightly heavier shaft in the Titleist.

I am having a Steelfiber i90 fc shaft put in an old AP1 backup 7-iron, just to give Steelfiber one last try.  I did not get along with the i95 cw.

Also having a G710 coming back with the alternative Recoil option.

I am playing the G710's and can confirm they are the best ping iron I have ever played.  I am 42 and went with a stiff graphite shaft recoils and am amazed at the distance I gained.  I am also amazed at how consistent I am with these irons.  The ball flies high and they are really hard to miss hit and the look of them as second to none.  I just love the black finish!

I am 70, looking for new irons, and I received a G710 7-iron with the Recoil shaft (R) yesterday, and now I am fairly excited to hit it.  Lovely weather in the Northeast.
