Garmin S62 Thread

Recommended Posts

Bought the Garmin approach G80 the other day but i am starting to have second thoughts. I like the larger screen and the launch monitor is cool but i would only use it sometimes during summer. During the winter my home range have simulators with top tracer so the launch monitor would not be neccesery. The S62 on the other hand have auto shot feature and virtua caddie along with other sports features. I am on the other hand not used to wearing watches. I can not decide!!

The app is just an intermediary. Think of it as Smykowski from Office Space. He (phone) sends the details from the customer (watch) to the engineers (Servers at Garmin) so the customer doesn't have to. The app is simply a middle man display between the watch and the servers.

Does anyone know if the Swing Tempo feature is saved anywhere? Or is it only after you hit a shot and then it resets?

For golf data, Garmin Connect sends the data to Garmin Golf. You have to keep score to get the data (Garmin Golf - Scorecards). If you don't keep score using the watch, if you just use it for yardages, it won't ask which club you used for the shot, nor track them, because it doesn't have a scorecard to look up. Also, I've fat fingered "dismiss" once or twice thinking I was saving the round after scoring... watch out for that too.

Hi.  I am in Scotland and recently bought the S62, trading up from , believe it or not, the S1 !   It's been like giving a chimp keys to a Ferrari.   My issues are ;

I like the shot tracker function but I find that if I go through the green with my approach shot the watch shows a picture of the green and asks me to insert my score.  It does not give me the opportunity to input the shot I play coming back on to the green before I putt?  So I need to input this on the PC after the round which seems very clunky.  I splashed out on the CT 10 sensors but after 2 rounds 6 of the 14 were not being recognised by the watch so I sent them back.

Also - what is the sequence required between watch and phone app to get the wind data?  I have tried opening the Garmin Golf app and the Garmin Connect app and never get the wind data on the course.  if you manage to get the wind data can your phone be in your golf bag or does it have to be in your pocket?

I think it's a great looking watch and battery life is excellent.

Any help would be welcome.    Al

Sometimes if if I open the golf app and it doesn't connect, I'll turn the Bluetooth on my phone off and then on again which normally solves any issues and allows it to sync up. To my knowledge, once it's connected to the golf app on your phone it will display wind when you select that menu option. Unless you stray far from your bag I'm pretty sure your phone can be in your bag, but I normally keep mine in my pocket so can't confirm.

@Al Cummings If you back out of the scorecard on the green and go to the menu, you can select "Last shot" and then add a shot manually from your current location.

However then you'd have to go back in the menu to get back to the scorecard for the green/putts. I find it easier to just remember to fix it after the round rather than fiddling with the watch that much.. but sometimes I'll do it that way if I'm waiting around for people anyway.

Same here - I usually fix things after the round after the memories are fresh and before the beers and scotch kick in!

The garmin s62 is not allowed in tournament play correct? Or do local small tournaments not care?

Just some of the functions ain't allowed. There is a "tournament mode" you can enable in the watch that disables the functions that ain't allowed (like wind speed/direction, virtual caddie etc)

Correct. The function Tournament mode shuts off is the capability to have your virtual caddie suggest a club. Not supposed to use it for any round that goes for your handicap. I leave mine on all the time unless I'm playing a scramble or something that cannot be submitted for GHIN.

One nice function regarding this is when I start a round, and it asks "Keep Score?" (X/Check Mark) it then asks "Use Tournament Mode?" (X/Check Mark) So I no longer have to even go and set it as on/off in the watch settings. It's a simple yes/no right before the round. Very well thought out function/UI mapping. ?
