Bridgestone RX vs RXS or Titleist AVX

wcdixon

Recommended Posts

Like a softer ball and played the Bridgestone RXS most of year (Srixon Q-Star tour a little) ...good consistent distance and great spin around greens. At end of season tried out the Titleist AVX...decent spin but gained 5-8 yds per club. Willing to make yardage/club adjustment and continue trying the AVX but just got a box of the Bridgestone RX and hoping they split difference nicely and will have the spin of RXS with the increased distance of the AVX.

Anyone else game or compare these balls and find this to be the case? Is the Bridgestone RX my 'perfect ball'?

I would like to hear feedback on this as well. I would also like to throw the 2020 standard chrome soft in the mix to see if there are any comparisons.

Agreed...haven't played a Chromesoft in a few years but had no complaints about it when i did - anyone test/compare the 2020 versions of the RX, AVX, and Chromesoft?

My limited experience with the AVX found it to be low launching, great feeling and long. I thought It lacked a little spin around the greens. I only played a couple of rounds with it and I think it was the 1st gen.

I do play the RXS fairly regularly and think it's a great ball, maybe a bit too spinny for me off the driver.

You might look at the TM Tour Response. It's long, soft and holds greens well.

I've played the Chromsoft 2020 and RX 2020 and find them very similar - spin, distance, firmness.  I have never played the AVX so I can't comment on it.  However, I would suggest the Maxfli Tour because I find it a little longer than the Chromsoft/RX and equal in all other regards.

I had no idea Maxfli still in the game these days! Looked up their specs and it sounds like a decent ball with compression the biggest difference to RX and Chromesoft. They're closer to 70 while Maxfli Tour a little firmer at 92 compression.

Oddly, the compression may be up but it certainly doesn't feel firmer than the Chromesoft or RX.  However, it does feel software than say the MTB-X.

If I was to pick my favorite two golf balls out at the moment I would pick the Titlesit AVX and Bridgestone RXS.

I actually found the RXS to be the longer of the two for myself

Do the trajectories off of the irons compare between the AVX and the RXS?

AVX trajectory definitely lower with driver off the tee and with fairway woods than RXS but found irons to be similar - low/mid launch...for me anyway.

I played the Tour B RX for several years until this year.  I do not like the 2020 model.  I've switched to the Titleist Tour Speed.  I find it to be very similar to the previous version of the RX.

For me 2020 RX and RXS are great but RX is much longer for my low 90s SS.  Still spins and stops easily so it’s my permanent ball going forward.  RXS feels softer/better but I’ll take the half club longer RX every time.  IMHO the RX is the magic ball I’ve been waiting for with distance and short game response.  I tried maxfli tour and distance wise it’s not close to the RX.

What didn’t you like about the 2020 RX?

It seems to have more spin off of full iron shots than the previous model.  This costs me a few yards in distance and makes my draw too hooky.  My home course has small greens surrounded by bunkers, so precision with approach shots is a must.

That said, off the tee, it's fine for me.  Very similar to last year's ball.  Maybe a couple of extra yards of carry.

Same 93-95 mph driver SS. Still need to hit the RX outdoors but whacked a bunch o' balls indoors this morning alternating between the 2020 AVX and the 2020 RX and came away with the following thoughts:

Still getting 5+ more yards than the RX per club from the AVX with decent spin around/into greens...which is nothing to sniff at, especially with irons.

BUT prefer the feel of the RX (and RXS for that matter) and they do have better spin around/into greens...almost seems like I can 'control' the RX more, if that makes sense....and the distance loss not THAT much.

In the spring I'll definitely start out taking turns with each ball and see how i feel then but could honestly play either ball right now if had to choose.

How do the launch angles and peak heights compare with the irons?

Good question and sorry, i didn't save or write down the exact numbers but short answer is peak height/launch angle definitely lower with the AVX....however my angle of attack is more on the steep side, so the launch angle/peak height not that different between the two. As in, my swing/contact angle likely gets the AVX up a little higher than some hitters...yet same swing didn't send the RX sky high.

My playing partner with a flatter/less steep attack angle tried both balls and much preferred the RX as the AVX flew so much lower for him. He has a faster SS than me and plays the Pro V1 or Srixon Z Star XV ball.

I played the Bridgestone RX & RXS...did not like the RXS but I did like the RX. I found it to feel similar to a TP5x or ProV1x which is ok with me. Ended up playing the ProV1x left dash most of last year but did Titliest ball fitting and and they recommended the AVX so I tried it late in the season. Very different feel than a RX but I could play the AVX.
