Who has shortened their putter?[Below 34]

Changing the grip on my putter and want to shorten my putter. At the moment it is at 34 thinking going to 33.25.I tend to grip down on my putter at 34 so said I may aswell change it. I am 5,11. Who has shortened their putter and has it helped or not?

 

Also How will cutting the putter abit less then an inch affect the putter?

I've always used a 33" putter (5'6") but in the last couple of years went to a 32 & 32 1/2. The older I get it becomes harder on my back, so I order a 33" 5.5 yesterday.

During a Titleist/Scotty fitting, they recommended a 33.5" and went with that on a custom order.

I'm 5'8" and have been using 33" putters for years and then adding lead tape to get to the feel I prefer.  If I have a heavier headed putter (a 365g Piretti for example), I will just leave it at its longer length rather than cut it down as gripping down doesn't bother me that much.

I'm 5'11" and use a 33 1/2" putter. I do have longer arms than average (at least I've been told that)

 

If you have the ability to add weight to the head so it's not too light I would give it a shot.

Going through my folks stuff I found an old Callaway Tuttle II that's 32.5" that belonged to my stepmom. 

I'll play around with it before I give to my wife who's 5'3".

I play mine at 33" as it lets me have my arms hang more naturally and set the shaft in line with my forearms. With anything longer I get too far away from the ball and my eyes fall too far inside. 

 

As for the weight, it'll really just be a feel thing. The head will feel a bit lighter going shorter. I play my putters at 370g but plenty of people play in the 350-360 range at 33".

All my putters are between 33.5 and 34.  Not that I ordered them that way, I guess just the tolerances and small changes in the lengths when I swap out shafts.  I can tell zero difference.

 

Interstingly, one of my buddies does exactly what you do in gripping low on the grip.  He went from a 35 to a 33 using the same reasoning as you and he still grips low lol.  Maybe it's a visual thing?  Beats me

I'm 6' and my putter length is 33.5". For years I always used a 34.0" or 34.5" model but with the new Ping grip I started experimenting a little bit with length trying to find more consistency. 

 

Honestly the adjustable grip from Ping was genius. I'm sure it helps with their product cost by not having to produce 3 or 4 different lengths of each model and as a consumer it's a great feature in experimenting with different lengths on a head you know you already like.

33” for me

I don’t care to choke down. The head feels a bit lighter, but I just made it up with lead tape.

the last year or 2, I’ve really settled into a 360g head at 33.5”.  Since I’m playing Cameron’s, that means a factory 33” extended by 1/2”.  I prefer it this way Because if I cut down a 34” then it’s too light for me.

5'10" here and I have been on 33"-33.5" for years. It just felt right to me but the older I get the more my back likes 34"+. Messed around with some longer putters over winter and didn't hate them. Going to shaft up a putter or two with 34" and 34.5" to give them a shot this year.

I use a 33 inch spider x. having the interchangeable weights really helps. subbed the 2g weights for 6g weights

I've had 33 inches since 1997. I did have a period of time I was putting with 32 but I pulled everything.

 

I'm also 5'8" with longer arms.
