Saw a cracked G425 iron at the range

A guy beside me at the driving range said “Man, check this out,” and showed me his brand new six iron.
 

He said it was his first time using them. Ordered in March, delivered in May, and in pieces after a few balls. Oof!

I told him I was sure Ping would take care of him. He understood but said he was just disappointed. I felt for him!

Oh they definitely will but how fast they can get him a replacement is another question.

Wow!  Never seen that before.  

 

The face is thin so it flexes.  Hopefully this is just an anomaly and not a case of the metal not being strong enough for the purpose.

I agree that Ping will make it right and fast. I’m a Ping fan but that’s a blow to the confidence in the new clubs.

Hard to say, I ordered a single G425 5 iron for a guy in February and it just showed up this week. It's impossible to tell anymore.

Isn't the G series of Ping irons GI irons with strong lofts?  Seems like companies are making the faces thinner these days for even more rebound/spring effect off the face like drivers hence the distance increases.  I should say I'm not surprised that the face cracked, but honestly I am this time.

G10s with USA on them, last G set cast in the USA with virgin 17-4 stainless. Don’t know what this new stuff is or where it’s melted down from.
 

Ping has sunk for me, love the company and the service though.

This definitely seems bizarre but PING will fix it no problem. I still would be skeptical that this happened on the range and not from some other incident, lol. Sure he wasn't try to see how far he could hit that rock instead of a golf ball?

He was a stick, and he was pretty upset that he'd spent $1100 on new irons just to have one go to pieces on him at the driving range, so I'll go with no, I don't think he abused the club. It's possible that something happened in shipping? You never know I guess.

Was he a high swing speed player?  Not an excuse for Ping, but those faces are pretty thin.

To be fair, this would appear to be a one of. I get it, the OP is disappointed as anyone would be. That little voice would be asking which iron is next.

But unless there are a rash of these then it is possible to get a bad casting. Ping probably ordered 50,000 of these 6 irons and to date no significant numbers. The casting probably was not allowed to cool properly.

I just had the same thing happen to my G425 6 Iron today. How did Ping handle it last year when you filed for a replacement?

Happened to my 6 iron and they have replaced it for a brand new club, few weeks later the back of my PW has also cracked must be a dodgy batch purchased 2021 October

Just had my 7 iron crack, 3 weeks old maybe hit 15 balls from brand new.

G425 V2 coming soon or G425B. If the shattered faces keep coming eg no minor cracks here its recast time. Gone too thin, too much trampoline. Easy to fix.
