I've fanboyed Esther Henseleit before but tbqh I was NOT expecting to see her in the TV coverage on the weekend.  Not much form displayed so far this year.

It annoys me so much (coupled with the inane coverage commentary about it) that when I see it my heart rate goes up.

Lydia's brilliant stretch before Asian Swing is looking more and more like a flash in the pan.  This is hard to believe with her golf IQ and all around games.

 

But this is golf, she could rise from the ashes starting tomorrow.

Not quite the Filipina that people were expecting to be the top player so far!  Her game is very much like Lizette's . . . whereas Bianca and Yuka are "newer" generation like Nelly (i.e.: power)

Get her put on the clock...ASAP....hope she doesn't win.

 

Nelly is getting REALLY P*SSED off...you can set it on her face when they zoom in on her while Salas is taking FOREVER to hit a shot....glad Salas just missed a birdie chance.

 

Jason M, Nelly's loop must be P*SSED too....I remember him on Nomura's bag when Kerr was slowing playing her in a playoff.

 

Ran into a marshal yesterday who I know...who worked as a marshal at another course previously. He was working and helping out when there was an corporate exhibition outing back in 2015...he said Kerr was being her nasty self and rude to him.

This is turning into a hit and giggle. I like that the ladies are getting an opportunity to play more respected courses but I feel that consciously/subconciously they are set up too easy lest the ladies be deemed unworthy by couch commentators if they shoot over par. Not saying the winning score needs to be Par but we may see someone win with -20 tomorrow not acceptable for a major.

I really would not be surprised that if she gets off to a quick start tomorrow and closes the gap to the leaders, that the leaders stumble a little opening the door for her.  And then if that happens it will come down to who holds their nerve. 😄

As for the Nelly vs. Lizette storyline, it is very much reminiscent of the one between Nicklaus and Trevino.  Nicklaus being the upper middle class, country club kid (Scioto C.C.) and Trevino, the self taught marine who played his golf on the dusty driving ranges of Texas . . . then of course there is the "waspish" v. hispanic angle as well.  

 

All Lizette needs to do tomorrow is pull out a rubber snake and toss it to Nelly on the first tee!  😄

Based on the current scoreboard are there any obvious implications for any players for Olympic qualifying?

 

Unless the IOC provides a special invite....looks like the Smiling Cinderella is not going to be on the Japanese team.

Who knows, maybe the Host country will get more players than the usual allotment of two.  But, then again, the new Emperor just spoke about the Olympics should be cancelled because of Covid and the fact that Japan is now into another wave of infection.
