I think it's Ali Whitaker...she's out to lunch.

Says Bianca is short then says she thinks Bianca is at least  5'9"....WTH....LMAO....5'9" is tall for a woman...and especially tall for an Asian woman.

As per a Google search...Bianca is 5'3"

Then they start yammering about escalators and elevators and Ali does not know which one has steps...WTH....LMAO.

yeah i heard that, like i thought, if she thinks bianca is tall, then is alison a midget at 4'11? LOL...

for the record, bianca is exactly 5ft 4 inches LOL.

I didn't know Alison played for Duke...they have her listed at 5'9"

https://goduke.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/alison-whitaker/15573

Duke has generally has/had a strong women's golf team...but they don't churn many LPGA winners....I have 2...maybe more???

Lang and Boutier

Not to say it's accurate....my Google search stated Bianca at 162 cm.

Japan in August is pretty brutal. Thank God the Japanese have perfected air conditioning...alas, not available while on the course : )

i like the way that Sagstrom's caddie is keeping cool (using a wet towel, or t-shirt, to cover his head around his cap, akin to an old-fashioned bonnet... Tony Johnstone referred to this/him as "Little Bo Peep"! sorry i can't screenshot the telecast, due to digital rights software!)

Story on Lexi's caddie not being able to finish the 1st round due to the heat. Hope he's ok.

What a 1st round difference from Ariya at the 2016 Olympics to this week. Solo first place in 2016 before getting hurt and had to eventually W/D to T58 after round 1. 😬

Anyone else think Lexi's racerback shirt a bit too skimpy...especially at a private club?

@KBong Are you also not in favour of the short shorts being work by some of the competitors

eg Pia Babnick (Slovenia) or Simmermacher (Argentina)

IMHO... nice to see some of these new names/less-familiar names competing in the Olympics & getting some TV exposure
...amd their yardage distances = more-familiar to my golf game (vs last week's mens event)

Dean Herdin is wearing a golf cap...he normally wears a huge 'lampshade' hat.

It looks really hot & humid there.

During the mens 400m it was 34C with a humidex of 47C and that was at 9:30am Tokyo time. Its causing a bunch of the sports to petiton to push back games. I believe both Canada and Sweden Womens soccer teams are trying to get the game time moved, since they are going to be playing at noon.

The commentators mentioned today's golf is being played in 45C ! (roughly 113*F?) ... didn't know that Tokyo/Japan ever reached those temperatures!

This is most likely the heat index.  90-95 F would be a very hot today there but it will feel worse with the humidity.  Quite frankly, now through Oct is the worst time of the year to be there...

Well, it is their language.

But fear not as not every Brit ex-golfer will be up for a commentary gig, there's absolutely no hope for Charley Hull with her regional English midlands dialect (note to Grant Boone, she is not from London) and her speech speed. Some of the American's she gets paired with must think WTF is she gibbering on about and just smile and nod at her.

@Rapidcat By "regional English midlands accent" ... am wondering if Kettering (the town from which Charley Hull hails) = near enough to be considered a Brummie / Birmingham-adjacent?

Sensational work, Jungle, and great edit adding the extra two videos! Our regular North American posters will wonder WTH this stuff is all about when they log back in.

No way is Kettering a Brummie accent (it may be even worse ha ha). Amazing that there are so many different accents within a few miles of each other eg Brummie adjacent to the Black 'Country' region (US folks, for clarity, Black Country isn't skin-color/ racist related, the name derives from the heavy soot pollution there from industrialisation of the 1800's) and they are quite distinct, but I suppose you cross a country border in Europe and the whole language changes (in theory).

One of the first times I saw and heard Charley I remember thinking what a fun swing and aggressive attacking game, lovely lady but what the hell is she saying? I'm an Aussie of English parentage, spent a fair bit of time there and quite attuned to the different Brit accents but she was almost indecipherable to me.

I lived in Japan for 27 years, so I'll insert some random Japanese info -->

Golf is not as expensive as it once was. The golf business had to change when the tax laws changed to eliminate deductions for businesses. Many courses were on the brink of bankruptcy. They restructured financially and some companies formed to acquire and manage golf courses. One company (Pacific Golf Management) owns or operates about 140 courses. both public and private. There are no municipal courses in Japan. The public wouldn't allow it.

It's no longer just a game for businesses or business. Japan has the second most courses in the world behind the US.

You stop for lunch at the turn for an hour. Lunch is included, but the beer is extra! No drink carts. There are usually a couple of small buildings each side with drinks, cold towels, hot towels in the winter, etc.

I played a few times at Kasumigaseki and at many courses in the Kanto area of Tokyo/Yokohama. A weekday round including lunch at a great Nicklaus designed course in Ibaraki where I lived was only about the equivalent of US$110, including lunch and range balls. Far less than the cost of golf in Scottsdale where I am now.

Golf is civilized in Japan. And lunch isn't a burned hot dog on a stale bun. This is a lunch:

No tipping in Japan.

Great post, really interesting to compare golf customs in different countries.

I don't mind a hot dog, but give me that any day.....mmm wasabi!

No real surprises at the top of the leaderboard. Aditi perhaps, but she had a good showing at the Dow. Klara is probably the most unlikely near the top. Nanna is often contending, but rarely plays well in the final round when it counts.

Brooke, Yuka, and Ariya, now that's a different matter. Still plenty of time to recover, but Ariya in particular needs to turn it around today.

The course is immaculate....the greens are running fast.....the lousy putters will struggle...............unlike the baked out, no grass, hard pan, dirt fairway nonsense I'm experiencing at my club....though the greens are nice.

I'm watching on TSN so only have the team that typically covers women's golf in Asia Pacific region.

Lol. Gotta spend a little $$$. This was my round yesterday.

Shame TV coverage shows very little of Mone play!!

Yeah, but it's tough to cover 60 players. I do say this is probably the best coverage of women's golf we'll see all year. They have cameras on every hole, instead of just a handful. They're not spending a lot of time showing players go through their routines, but are quickly cutting between shots. I approve.

Maybe not.

High possibility the tournament will be shorten to 54 holes due to inclement weather starting on Friday.

That would stink. You don't think they'd extend it into Sunday morning if necessary?

It's for cooling down forged irons and hot putters...

Seriously though, they do, in Asia, and sell those in "warmer" climes... Though not sure if they do in Japan. Put this way, we don't need it in Canada lol...
