Influenced by rental clubs

This probably doesn’t apply to the typical X flex WRXer, but I am finishing up a family vacation where I played 2 rounds of golf & rented clubs both times (too much of a hassle bringing my own set). I can play either R or S flex clubs (my gamers are S). My first rental set were Callaway Mavrik’s, and I wasn’t impressed at all. But my 2nd set (different course) were a combo of Epic Flash woods & Rogue hybrids & irons. I had one of my better ball striking days of recent memory esp. the driver. While my gamer set includes the SZ version of the driver, I think the shaft (stock EvenFlow Green) in the rental was great (for my swing). But the true star of the set were the Rogue hybrids.

 

TLDR: after the round playing the rentals, I went online & ordered the same driver shaft & the hybrids (with a different shaft).

 

BTW I bought a new car years ago after test driving their service loaner so I tend to be influenced by rentals in general LOL.

 

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Callaway stock shafts are pretty light and a lot of fitters and pros will say swing the lightest shaft you can comfortably.

My friend who just started playing golf bought a whole set of rogues. I tried them just for fun and found out that they weren't bad at all. Also, I always think evenflow shafts are underappreciated and am waiting for any company to pick up riptide mx for stock. Then, I will get it cheap haha.

Rented a set of Callaways in Hawaii 5 yrs ago, missed my Pings.

Rented a Ford Fusion hated it, Bought a Tahoe.

great idea, it's nice to try them out and then buy. Not easy otherwise. Will be playing in Vegas and should get a chance to rent the Rogues.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. A course in Tucson rented callaway rogues through the whole set. My next set was callaway rogues. 
 

I really did like the irons, but I never quite got along with the hybrids.

Im much older than most as my 1st set I rented was over almost 40 years old. I swore I would never chase that stupid little white ball around but some friends talked me into giving it a try. I shot a 44-45 1st time ever with a set of NorthWestern's, I got hooked from then on. Wow! can you imagine just how many sets of clubs I have been thru, too many to count. My game has improved a lot over the years as I'm playing some of the best golf of my life. Hitting Callaway Epic Max driver, 3W, 5W, Srixon 4-PW ZX5's Cleveland RTX Full Face Zipcore 52* and 58* wedge with a Piertti Potenza Elite back up putter and a newly acquired a beautiful Lajosi LP-421 putter.

I would be surprised if any lefties have ever been impressed by a set of rental clubs. The set I borrowed in Guam was a mix of lefty clubs they had gathered over the years. 🤣

I once played a rented set of Titleist irons in the early 90s, and I hated them so much I have not swung a Titleist club since

Some courses have rental bags that are from boxed sets. Other courses have rental bags of midline game-improvement or better current production models.

 

If you can find a course that has these midline rentals, it's a great way to test our models "in the wild." It may be an extra $50 or so when you play. But, it's less hassle than having a test set shipped in, and then having to box it up and ship it back.
