LPGA Purses and Endorsements

LPGA is a bit like PGA Tour nowadays, given the significant increase of purses and possibly a residual effect of COVID-19.

The Spring Asian Swings used to be 'must have' events for star players, but no more.  The $1.7 million purse in Singapore and $1.6 million in Thailand used to be above average but now is a bit below average.

Many American and European stars have chosen to skip the events; leaving Koreans and other Asian players to round up the field.

Not much different than the early Florida swing where many of the top Korean and Australian players decided to skip.

Is it the purses, or the travel and restrictions that are the biggest factor? Could be both. Once/if we get past this pandemic, we'll see how entries settle in.

Purse is a strange thing!  It's great that USWO has a $10.0 million purse and the winner gets $1.8 million, but it's also has a negative influence.

Leona Maguire won $225,000 yesterday, she needs to win 8 times to match that $1.8 million check.  Eight wins, imagine!

It begs to question; "Is a seven win season of $225,000 checks not as good as one win at USWO?":

  1.   Money wise, it's $1,575,000 vs. $1,800,000
  2.   Seven wins gets 7.0 Hall of Fame points vs. 2.0 for USWO
  3.   Seven wins would get on average 260 Rolex points compared to 100 for USWO

That's a shame🤣

Too bad Kang, Salas, SNaP V1, SNaP V2, and Stanford didn't get the same memo.

The only Americans worth cheering for include GIMMEE, Lexi, Megan Khang, Yealimi, Ryann O'Toole, Lang, CHEESE, Angel Yin, Jenn Song (though I think she's 100% Korean), Andrea Lee, Jaye Marie Green

Nelly Korda's golf slowed down precipitously the last two weeks, but her popularity hasn't .  She continued to add 1,000 new followers every 2-3 days and has reached 475,000.  She'll be closing in on 500,000 followers the next time she tees off at JTBC Classic on March 24.

This is important, because there'll be a litmus test the next week at the Chevron Championship.

Nelly had less than 200,000 followers the last time she played Chevron.  The TV rating should set a new high with her new found popularity and this being the last year at Mission Hills.  This is especially true if Nelly is in contention over the weekend.

The Golf Channel always reports the rating if it sets a new record; 'Silence isn't Golden’ in this case.

You're so funny.

You should be thankful Smiley Mike enforced a LPGA event restraining order on you.

I can only imagine you bumping into Petr Korda and the choice words he'd have for some 70 something guy who fawns/drools and cyber stalks his young daughter....once he figures things out.

If it was filmed and posted to Youtube it would have over 475,000 views.🤣

Sigh. #56? What's #55?

LMAO

Candidate for post of the year.

Yes, the above is #55.

But...IMO....ya can't have a GREAT course unless the finishing hole #18 is TRULY A BEAST to make PAR.

That's why a CLOWN MOUTH is always MANDATORY.

The below course ranks #3 behind Pine Valley and Baltosrol.

Joking aside, it's nice that they found a home for the event. However, there is already an event in New Jersey. The Pacific Northwest is in need of a tournament, as does the flyover states. Kansas City or Omaha perhaps.

Yes...tru dat.

It's tough to get any club to host an event...especially one with a shortened season and with Covid golf demand.

Ya....Portland is PNW.

I wonder if the homeless are still camped outside of Columbia Edgewater.

Would be nice to get a Van City and/or Seattle event.

Seattle used to have the Safeco.

I think Omaha had a USSO a few years ago...it attracted huge galleries.

It's a small step for Epson Tour and a small step for golf:

NEWLY NAMED EPSON TOUR ANNOUNCES RECORD-BREAKING 2022 SCHEDULE

"The 21-tournament schedule will take the Epson Tour to 13 states and offer $4.41 million in total prize money, for an average purse size of $210,000. Both figures eclipse the previous all-time records for total prize money ($4 million) and average purse size ($194,000) set in 2019 and 2021, respectively. The season begins March 4-6 with the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven, Fla., at the Country Club of Winter Haven."

Yeah, but I was thinking more along the lines of Seattle.

Lol. Why give Canada a 2nd event? They can't seem to run the CWO, so we certainly don't need two canceled tournaments. Pfffttt. 🙃

Plenty of places that are golf crazy that don't have tournaments. I'd like to see an event return to Arizona. Chicago had a solid run with the International Crown and two KPMGs in three years, but now it's silent. If Toledo and Grand Rapids can attract events, certainly Chicago can find a course willing to host the women. I'd love to see the LPGA at Cog Hill Dubsdread. The course hosted the Western Open and BMW for ages. The Glen Club would also be excellent. They've hosted a Korn Ferry event for a number of years.

I'd definitely like to see a major in Korea. Maybe we need a compromise. Since most don't consider the Evian a "real" major, why not alternate it between Europe and Korea every other year?

I agree about Korea. But I just don't like a fifth major, there's just no need for it. I'd be curious to see the attendance records since 2013 compared to the other majors.

There's only 1 good SLOP HOUSE here in Van City....Kent's Kitchen...I got some after playing Langara on Sat

BUT

They raised their prices a $1....so $8.95 now....2 items on chow fun.

I'll likely just get my $9.95 chicken teriyaki box with so many options nearby.

FWIW...the SLOP HOUSE scene here in Van City is lousy....no place worth going to.

Toronto is FAR SUPERIOR for slop houses with great food & value.

The only Chinese restaurant worth going to here is Western Lake for dim sum....it's not a slop house.

Phoenix might be golf crazy, but not for the LPGA.

The Founders was a SHAM compared to the WMPO....though WMPO is really a PARTY vs a golf tournament.

They use to lie about the attendance at Wildfire....65,000+...LMAO....some years it was crickets on Thurs & Fri.

Either Korea or Japan should have a women's major....it would be well attended in both countries....get rid of Evian.

A company from S. Korea or Japan should have jumped in before Chevron and moved a major there.
