Mizuno ST-Z 220 and ST-X 220

Photos in this thread show the STZ fairway wood with the adjustable hosel. The STX line, which is a more draw-biased game improvement model (see weight location, which mirrors the drivers) appears to have the glued hosel. My guess is the STZ line will run $50-100 more than the STX models.

Where are you seeing the info about TI construction and face depth?

NVM, I'm an idiot.  Was looking at the ST200, but my brain autocorrected to see 220.

That said, I'm now hopeful again they're retaining the adjustable hosel.

For me yes, But I struggle with launch and spin. I always find I need to play more loft. Personally, the G is the lowest spinning driver I have ever tried. I think a 10.5 head would be perfect.

Thanks for the insight. I’ve been working on increasing my AoA to make it more positive. Sounds like it might be best to wait until the new models come out or even give the previous STZ another go

Well damn. Obviously, take that in context for what it is, but it seems like we're getting a lot more MOI and left/right forgiveness here. Maybe not the club for the driver artists that love to work their tee shots, but I'll take tighter horizontal dispersion any day of the week.

Also, pics tomorrow according to Mizuno's reply in the comments.

Doesn't look like there will be a "z" fairway wood only "x" with no adapter or weight port. Three wood in this model looks to be Titanium while the higher lofted woods are steel.

There is a z.  It looks like they're sort of mimicking TM SIM fw's with the X being the fixed hosel, more forgiving version and the Z having an adjustable hosel but more of a players profile.  Disappointed as last year's STZ was a bit of a unicorn.

I hope there will be an adjustable, player profile three wood. I have an st190 tour spoon fwy and I love shape. I also have the stz from 21 and it's super forgiving, feels like a mini driver for me.

I hope you're right as I'd definitely prefer the Titanium z type model you're describing.

Just to be fair, this is something I'd heard from a store employee so take it with a grain of salt.  However, it does make sense to me since last year's only fw was the STZ and now the moniker changed to STX.  Just makes sense there probably is an STZ model coming to complement it.

Yes, there is a STZ 220 and an STX 220. They both look very much like the Z from the last cycle. But the X will be draw biased with a glued hosel and will include a 7 wood. The pics have been up on the USGA conforming list website for a couple of months.

I’m confused, just saw this posted on the home page of Wrx.  So this a draw biased but deeper faced 3 wood made from titanium aimed towards the game improvement side?

This sounds more like a WRX unicorn to be played at Augusta off 10 and 12 lol

And the 3 wood is larger than the STZ by 8cc’s! I thought the STZ was fairly large!

The only st-z fairway wood on the USGA conforming list is the one released last year with the first stz driver.

The 220 fairway woods appear to both be st-x 220 for both the titanium and steel types and with a glued hosel.

Mizuno makes damn good drivers. I tried out the Z last year and I had one of my better ball speeds with that club.

Must try in fittings.

Looks like they are only rolling out the ST-X 220 in fairways and hybrids this cycle. No STZ update for now but I'm certain I saw a photo of both the Z and the X, with the Z retaining the adjustable hosel. Maybe they withdrew the Z for now?

Thanks for the reassurance, I'd forgotten you mentioned it as well.  Can you give a link to the conforming list pic?  I stink at trying to find stuff on there.

Per MGS website (think of what was James Bond’s occupation and you’ll figure it out), the new STZ fairway (here’s hoping titanium!) is officially delayed but not forgotten.

New lineup looks great but I'd love to know what is going on with no STZ fairway offering. The thought of keeping last year's STZ fairway for this year when they went ahead and updated the driver doesn't make sense at all. Also, Mizuno is more targeted to the better golfer. That's their game and what they have been known as for decades. If you only have the ability to release one option at launch why launch the draw-bias model that (1) goes against most of your core customer base and (2) eliminates grabbing above average players from other brands.

It is a letdown. But I'm OK rolling with my STZ fairways from last year for now. I might look at an ST-X 220 in the 7 wood as long as it's not built with a closed face. I can live with draw-biased weighting but I can't stand looking down at a shut club head.

Per MGS the face does not sit shut at address for this new fairway lineup. They went out of their way to state this.

Keith and his buddy Grayson did a 2v2 against a popular YouTuber at Sea Island.  I didn’t think he had the driver in play but Grayson did talk about being the first time he hit the new 220.  Keith did say in those 3 videos (they showed 6 holes in each) that he had the new irons and that was the first time he had even hit them.

I sorta wish the mizuno recruiters would stop going down this sea island southern boy rabbit hole.  Living here in NC, these fellas come across as unsavory sometimes.

dunno what in the world a japanese golf company and the south have in common.  Lol.  Guess they don’t charge much to be sponsored players 😆

Mizuno has a long history in GA. Their facility is / was in the Atlanta area and they are tied in with a lot of the clubs and players across the state. From a PGA Tour player type of view, Sea Island isn't that different from Jupiter FL. There are a ton of really talented players in both locations. Most of Taylormade's staff is in Jupiter so they shoot their content there. Mizuno does the same.

Performance gains in fairways woods aren't as dramatic year on year.  As a result plan is to run each fairway wood model for 2 years.  With drivers, Mizuno had a long stretch of 2 year driver lifecycles - slowed the development down and by unanimous opinion lost a little ground.  Also slow development made it harder to keep a driver in a tour players bags - if the current tour driver wasn't liked - there wouldn't be another along for 2 years.  We needed to be a little more rapid with our driver development.  Hence the yearly introductions.

Exactly, that G. Sigg dude seems really really strange.

At least Luke was good stock to base the Mizuno advertising on.  He seems pretty normal, cool looking family living in florida living the tour life.  Not on some exclusive island where houses mysteriously burn down.  (I kid, I kid)
