@Whoa Nelly

Arpichaya Yubol has entered 2022 LPGA Q-School Stage I:

Stage I entries

I hope Ina Yoon comes too.

I'm boycotting the KLPGA because they are blackballing her.

Just fine her and be done with it!

there are some interesting names in the Q-school Stage 1.

e.g. a former KLPGA 'superstar' (and some other internet/instagram favourites)

...and "ShuangShuang Fan" = name sounds like a recently-retired  LPGA pro/major winner!

She played the wrong ball and is facing a 3 year suspension? Yikes.

Am I on drugs (maybe) but why is Charlotte Thomas always shown in the "former majors winner" category. What sport are we talking about here ?

Charlotte Thomas = medical exemption.  Kept in that category to preserve her priority status prior to the medical issue?

Think this trivia tidbit stuck with me after i asked a similar question last year (or earlier this year) and might've received a "Get with the program!!" type response ... perhaps from @KBong?) 😬🚫🤬

Updated priority list with Maja Stark but no reshuffle.

Thought i saw elsewhere that the "second reshuffle tournament" = should've been end-July.

Quote: "The LPGA will have two Priority List reshuffles during the 2022 season. The first one is usually at the end of May, and the second one at the end of July."

thanks @18majors.

Found the FAQs/ Entry Criteria for the various stages of Q-School/Qseries from the LPGA website too (Linked here , for those interested & to save folks a google search).

I’ll bet money that Elsa Diaz will finish last or within 10 strokes of last. She struggles to make mini and regional tour cuts.

surprised to see Charlotte Mayorkas. 12-13 years after her rookie year

Seriously, nothing against Nelly, but what has she done in 2022 to even remotely deserve this. If they felt the need to have a golfer on the list, where's Brooke, or Minjee or Kupcho.

Guess popularity overshadows achievements once again...👎👎

Seems the list is only American athletes, so not that important anyway. Kupcho for certain over Nelly this year.  They may as well have put Mia Hamm and Serena Williams on this list too.

That being said McLaughlin has my vote pretty easily.

American only, ok, how about DK, Marina, Jessica K, Lilia Vu, Lexi. Their performances on course are equal or better than Nelly's.

It's just sad everything is a popularity contest.

By “popularity contest”... Perhaps it’s a function of her agent’s effectiveness in getting the player’s name the right airtime/ publication inches...

which agency is Nelly with, e.g. the agency formerly known as WMA/William Morris = one of the biggies, correct? Or  IMG? (I remember someone here referred to IMG as “the Death Star”!!)

..edit: found some info here.

Lmao! Yeah the broken English is hard to decipher but I've read several - basically she admittedly played the wrong ball long after the tournament was concluded. Now it seems the KGA appears to be giving her the Brittany Greiner treatment.

Looked at the Q-School list in more detail. Always interesting names show up.

*Charlotte Mayorkas - Had some decent seasons in the late 2000s. Then disappeared, if I remember correctly at least had a handful of top 10s. The LPGA site is horrible for historical data on players.

* Valery Plata- Played a few LPGA events already

* Georgia Oboh- 2 years ago said that in 5 years she would have won all of golf’s majors, yet can barely make a cut on the LET. Nevertheless, glad to see someone from Nigeria, one of the world’s most populous countries in pro golf.

* 9 mexicans - although maybe 1-2 at the most will advance. The mexican girls have a really bad mental game.

* Indians including Sharmilla Nicollet who won a twitter poll to get into the Shoprite LPGA classic a few years ago. Could India be next as far as numbers on the LPGA? Seems like the world’s second most populous country is due.

* Olivia Mehaffey

* Kim Welch, what is this 14 years of trying to make it on the LPGA and her claim to fame are her scarfs and that she was on Big Break?

* Troy Mullins?? Didn’t Phyllis Meti get a sponsor’s exemption into the LPGA event in New Zealand and finish last by a lot. Maybe Troy has a surprise for us??

Problem is in India there are barely any golf courses available to the public, most of them are on military bases. I think down the road you will see some more Indian-American golfers as we are starting to see on the PGA like Theegala and Bhatia. Of course we all remember Megha Ganne at US Open however she is committed to Stanford which diminishes her chances of being a successful professional on the LPGA. Not saying it can't happen, but rarely do college players succeed at the next level unless they were esteemed amateur players like Kupcho, Maguire, Vu, Andrea Lee etc

That (underlined)!  In fact, an aside, the only reason some locals are able to play is bec of their relation to "military".  Perfect example?  Anirban Lahiri - his father is a doctor for the army - so he got to tag along with his father to play (and the rest is history).

But it is improving/developing over there...  Lahiri himself goes there every year to promote grassroots golf -- public courses (and access) is still a drop in a bucket but trending up (albeit extremely slow).

Strangely, I know more about Lahiri than Ashok (though I admit, I rarely go to visit/tour India relative to Japan)

Agreed but there is a domestic women’s tour and junior programs where there weren’t before. Just saying this could be enough to get just a few more players on the LPGA.

@Supermilo welcome back... by serendipity/coincidence, just saw this Aditi Ashok profile / wish to popularise golf amongst girls in India

Verdict coming soon

All these "experts" involved. Treating it like some high profile case 😑

I guess it's a big deal over there because womens golf is more popular in Korea.

Lexi cheated in a major but this is sounding like something more severe which I find silly

This whole affair is way over the top - and will make South Korea the laughing stock of the golf world - UNLESS the player intentionally and deliberately played the wrong ball in an attempt to deceive.  If that was the case then you would need a caddie like the one below.    But if it was truly a case of mistakenly playing the wrong ball, then it is way too much.

Funny though, I still can't get over how prescient this clip is from 1964 . . . and apologies for sharing it again 🙂

Elsa Diaz seems to be kind of random. Who is she?

She got a sponsor’s invite into the Kingsmill event a few years back because she went to college nearby. I believe she is from and still lives in San Antonio. Has struggled mightily on the WAPT. Also wrote an article about the time she met Rory and the Advice he gave.Just seems to have had a little more hype than someone with her profile would usually have. She has a lot of connections in the sports world which may explain the interest.

Did you hear the VOA Classic is now the Ascendant LPGA? Increased purse and better date should make for a nice event. Although I get the feeling many players don’t really care for this course. Planning on driving down for 2-3 days.
