If you're not fussy about having a full set, there's a shop in Ontario that has PW-6 irons of the Professional Custom Built irons. Also a 3 iron... but not 4/5. Reg flex.

Lucky to have a mint set of Eye 2+ becus (matching # apart from the SW).  I've always played Ping but am keen to add a set of Hogan Apex blades at some point.  I need to do more research on the various iterations first though.

I wish I was on this at home so I can upload picts of my vintage irons. I have becu eye 2's green dot eye 2 plus's, ping eye, ping zing 2's, 1970 x31 wilsons, , wison goosenecks, 1979 titleist pro's, 50's set of sam snead championships, magregor MT's, wilson 1200's form the 70's I think

 

but still want the FG17, I have the sand wedge and love it, pairs well with the goosenecks but want the whole set

 

want some early mizuno pros as well

I've recently seen a set of FG-17s online.  Dynamic R, 2-SW, for what it's worth...

When you say 1979 Titleist Pros, do you mean the Tour Models, or something different? I played a set--which I got second hand--of '79 or '80 Titleist Tour Models for about 3 or 4 years in the late Eighties/early Nineties, and still have them back in the UK. 

 

I've never been able to date them accurately, but I'm pretty sure they are the original Tour Model release. Are yours similar? I'm afraid these are about the best pics of them that I've got at the moment.

 Such a great iron set. Even though I got what a pretty much the same iron in my FG-J8s, I still want to jump on an FG-17 auction whenever they come up here.

yes those are it the pro models, like them but the hosel is so fat and heavy really hook them if I am not careful

I had to resist the urge to buy those FG17s for myself.  But, I think I'm done with steel shafts, and I don't need yet another set.  I still have all these Golden Rams around, after all.  😉

And from what I've read about how Wilson fitted their shafts from that time, I don't want to think about re-shafting.

 

Golden Rams aren't a bad compromise, either. My Tour Grinds certainly aren't going anywhere😊

I find them so cheap I cant help myself, only really paid for one vintage set the others from goodwill and garage sales. Amazing how little people want for those.

FG 59's are basically updated FG 17's with lighter shafts and shorter hosels. Harder to track down these days but they are a great alternative.

What is funny I was messing around in the clutter of the shop Tuesday since it was windy and cold. Found a set of Muirfields I did not remember having.  They were one of the junkpile finds. Actually they are stock TT Regular shafts with Victory Cords in good shape. 4 thru 9 iron. I did remember they had a 54 Winged MT wedge with them that was beat to crap. I may go out in a few and clean them up since it is raining here now. One thing that blew my mind is all of the irons but the 5 iron have "Tour Forged" stamped on the hosel but all of the SNs match so shrug. I will more than likely start back playing vintage next week so I might pull the FCs out and play those and see.

Golden Rams aren't a bad compromise, either. My Tour Grinds certainly aren't going anywhere😊

 

Only the Shadow knows what evil lurks in Wilson hosels.  Found a set of FG-17 stiff at a garage sale for $10 and tried playing them.  No bueno.   Upon further review, contemplation of a reshaft was not in the cards.  Subsequently liquidated.  Same for a set of '78 Staffs, Dynamic Stiffs.  Had them for longer than I can remember.  They sit stored away, looking ominous.  Don't have the inclination for a wrestling match trying to pull the shafts, and mucking them up.  

 

Thrifted a partial set of E2's some years back.  Never had hit E2's before.  TBH, they didn't float my boat.  Even found a + no + SW to add.  That didn't do anything for me either.  Nothing but thins from mid-summer tight lies.  Scratched the itch was all, zero inclination to rotationally play a set.  But ISI's (beni's), 3 - S3 (mostly play 6 up), are the bee's knees.  Surprisingly good irons, that are very playable.  Have a thin sole, minimal bounce thing.  

 

The appeal for acquiring additional classic irons for playing is diminishing.  Sort of a "been there, done that" thing.  Off the top of my head only two are on the personal radar, if I were to run across them for a very reasonable (cheap) cost.  

 

MacGregor V-Foil 1025 C's just because I've had no experience with playing Macs.  And they apparently have some inherent sweetness.  

 

Also curious about Ping Karsten III's.  The Pings that began to have some radius in the sole design.  The playability metrics are suburb.  45 year old irons 878, latest and bestess 605.  What??  How's that possible??  Color me intrigued.

Yep taking a hard knock to the head and getting older has it's advantages. I can watch the reruns of NCIS and do not remember what happened same with Law and Order. I am getting ready to really go through the shop in the next few weeks and will be looking forward to the adventures awaiting me that I have forgotten about

I wonder if that shop ever got emptied what else would be found that you didn't remember getting your hands on 😆

I can understand that. I'm learning more and more what I like and I've enough sets that hit my sweet spot to keep me happy, such as my Mizuno Originals (two different models, like them both), Wilson FG-J8s (FG-17s), Mac Muirfield 20ths, RAM Tour Grinds. Then I've got sets that are near enough the sweet spot that I want to keep them around, such as my Mizuno MS-7s, a set of custom Wilsons, Mac Muirfields, and Taylormade TD Tour Preferreds.

 

I could halve the number of my iron sets and still have over 15 that I enjoy playing. Not much need to acquire more.

 

That said, I probably would go for an BeCu EYE2 set, blue dot, if they came up for the right price. And I'd still like to get a set of Powerbilts to try out, either some forged Scotchblades or Citations.

Set I saw, new in box but had X100 shafts which is a no go for me. They are lookers. Does not hurt Miura made them. Same place had Seve Dunlops, NIB also X100, really nice blade, wish I bought both of them now.

I've been lucky enough to collect most of the classic irons I've wanted.  I'd still like a set of the 91-97 Titleist tour models and the 681s.  I'd still don't have a set of VIPs though so I guess I'd like those too.

The Seve's were gorgeous, but they came along with persimmons too. Was not cheap

   This is a great thread. I'm lucky that the local Nevada Bob's has a good supply of used sticks at reasonable prices.

  Currently playing Tommy Armour 845's , with some 990's and Eye 2's on the bench.

  I've been tried several of the irons listed in this thread and I would like to get a set of Titleist DCI Blacks, one of the best players in my town uses those and I've always wanted a set.
