I am one never to stir up nonsense in here (or at least I don’t try to). I do have to say, owning both NC and Artisan wedges it is a no contest for me with the Artisans winning out.

NC makes incredible golf clubs.  Nothing but respect.  I do think their grinds are geared more for southern courses, hardpan…think Pinehurst.  They are also about $350 for a head…. Unbuilt….that’s a bit much for me.

I play in MN.  They made me a wedge and in THEIR defense it was a phone fitting.  So, I may have lead them totally wrong.  It was fine, but really struggled on our very lush wet turf up here.  It was fine on tight lies; not great on fluffy ones.  Again, I MAY HAVE LEAD THEM WRONG thinking I needed something I didn’t.l (low bounce/picker).

That being said, Artisan fit me over the phone too.  Those wedges are grails and will NEVER leave my bag.  Guys I play with legit get annoyed at the shots I pull off and I’m not a great player!

So FOR ME, when the money is down or I’m playing in an event, the Artisans are in the bag, not NCs.  nothing but love for both icons, however.

Just ordered a fresh one in fact…

I love the DS grind which I have for my 58.  The SB grind though... my fav.

I've always loved the shapes of the Nike irons and wedges but my one gripe with the Nike wedges was they were almost onset.  I like a little bit of offset or "slung hosel" look in the wedges like the Vokey's have or the old 588 Cleveland's (or any Cleveland for that matter).  I assume Mike has 0 issues adding a little offset into the wedges?

After a conversation with Jamie today, they are certainly moving through the numbers fast for irons!

Very nice looking irons and I understand the story behind the Company founders, having followed this thread for a while and looked at the large inventory on Ebay for their products. So not all that rare in Japan, my question is about the stock sets sold on the bay are they just that? Just some random forging polished up and their logo stamped on it?

I am not trying to insult the line, just trying to understand the price point for off the rack wedges and irons.

It is certainly clear if you go for the fitting and get the personal treatment and then they are built for you to your fitted specs by hand (I assume the grinds since the heads are generic so to speak) then sure the price and wait is justified but what is special about the non custom products?

Or is there something I have just not found yet about them?

I was on their wait list for 2 years.  When they called, my second son was a week from being born, I couldn’t drive down.  Then, Covid hit.

I happen to have a dear friend who knows a touch about clubs, Larry Bobka.  I play with Larry 2-3 times a month and he has seen meet hit thousands of golf shots.  Larry is a hell of a player, BTW.

Jamie and the Artisan boys were really understanding that I had son on the way and they worked with Larry to understand what I needed.  Larry had fit me into irons and have them a wedge build recommendation all the way down to toe and heel relief.  Pretty cool moment for me!

For the irons, not sure if you actually have to go in.  I would think having your specs for wedges would suffice?  I do know they aren’t doing hand grinding on irons except for an extreme upcharge.

Spoke with Jaime...Staring this week on player #140

They are idealistically hoping to give all existing customers a chance at irons by end of 2023.

He noted...its a high level estimate, subject to change and only based on the take rate they are seeing so far.

For an in person iron fitting expect it to be an approximately 2 hour process, less time than wedge or putter fitting.

I reached out for some info because:

1) Living in Michigan my golf game is in hibernation due to winter...ideally wanting to be fit late spring/early summer

2) With a newborn son (6 months)...needing to plant seeds for a golf trip/iron fitting escape farther in advance now with my wife

Driver= 9.5 deg Taylormade Stealth+ w/ Project Hzrdus (yellow)

3 wood= 15* deg Taylormade M3 w/ Project Hzrdus (red)

Hybrid= Taylormade Stealth 19* w/ Fujikura Red Ventus

Irons= 4 Artisan FC, 5-8 Artisan HM, 9-PW Artisan MB w/ NS pro tour 120 S shafts, hard stepped

Wedges= Artisan 49, 54, 58 w/ NS pro tour 125

Putter= Artisan 0220 Stainless w/ mid depth milling

Certainly moving thru the list quickly….would be curious to know what percentage of people are getting these when offered…I guess as a high 200 hundred number early 2023 would seem likely

They're not cheap, so it all depends on willingness of the buyer(s) to spend for what I think will be a worthy set of irons.

Yes, they are forged and machined, just like the wedges

Well that is a suprise as i thought they woudl still be around 40-50.  At 185 i will be getting a call pretty quick.  Need to dust off the golf game as i have been focused on hunting the last month or so.

Yup.  All good.  Not kicking you when you’re down but I can confirm that the heads are NOT hand ground.  I asked Jamie that…he said theoretical they would do it but the upcharge would be significant/insane.  Mainly because it’s not necessary for 99.999% of the golfing world.  These things are weapons as is…art really.

So, yeah, they don’t hand grind irons.  I mean, if Charl and Bernard can play without hand ground Artisan’s I supposed we can manage 🤣
