I had a relationship with Mike Taylor when he was with Nike. After Nike bailed out of equipment Mike started Artisan with Franklin and some other guys. I ordered some of the early wedges back in 2016-17. Customer #007…

Not a good photo guy…new zx7’s vs Artisan full cavitys…Srixon guy for a long time, 965’s still my favorite…new ZX7’s essentially the same club as last years imo, feel, turf, etc…touch less offset and how it “looks” all subjective to me…kbs v110’s with same specs in all my stuff…Srix are solid just like their irons have been for years, but for me Artisans are more solid, the way MT builds, proper balance, headweights, overall weight, etc

I’d like to hear more about how MT builds clubs. I know his thing is mor total weight vs swing weight and likes heavier head weights. It would be a nice read if the WRX crew could get a story on that.

Those are beautiful irons! I hope they make them in lefty someday but we need wedges first. Does anybody know if you can order wedges without their star logo?

More total weight of the club. They also have heavy head weights in their wedges and I assume irons. They aren't obsessed with SW like others are. When talking to Jamie, he says they try to get as close to the same standards like Miura heads, which are some of the heaviest to build in the industry.

This is true.  Within a gram of the Miura head weights.

Another note, apologize in advance if this has been talked about already, you will never find a tip weight in any club that comes from Artisan…big big deal when a club is built and then a tip weight is added to achieve a certain swing weight, you’d be better off to build with lead tape added to the head vs building with a tip weight…much easier for all oem’s to build with tip weights due to managing their lighter head weighs…the famous stories of MT building irons with buried tungsten plugs in the head…many oems are working that tungsten in the head into their offerings but most are still built from the oem using tip weights…i230’s have the built in tip weight that is offset with the adjustable weighted toe screw as do others…most of us have placed a large value on the swingweight of a golf club, but the more valuable number is the overall weight

Looking at my build sheet -

 

SB 55 loft 65 lie 35 3/4 length +LE Bevel

DS 60 loft 65 lie 35 1/2 length +LE Bevel

 

55 is used for approach play, bunkers and I have 3 different flights when chipping. 60 is used for approaches and have 2 different flights when chipping and a spinner.

 

I moved back from Texas to Scotland and a member at Royal Aberdeen so moved the wedges between very different grasses and hardness of surfaces! They have been great for me on every type of course. My dad has links grinds on his and I struggle with them; I am really shallow chipping so would have thought I would be fine with them.

I will second this, the artisan guys built my miura craftsman world custom tc-101's and Jamie commented specifically on how nice and heavy the miura heads were....

Will add one more to this, Artisan just released or they are inbound for the Japanese market a new DR grind;

 

*58 and 60 only

 

A sole shape located between the DS and R soles , made at the request of PGA tour players.

 

The contact surface is wider than the DS sole, and it has the same face back and toe-heel round as the R sole.

interesting player number is 26 but looks like a previous set made was 117 does anybody know for sure what player number they are on as it seems like they are all over the place. Hard to get a read on this?

Yeah, I get that. I would like to get a deep dive into their philosophy on building. I know they like heavy heads and favor total weight of the club and how it makes the shaft work. What total weight numbers do they shoot for in irons and wedges and how does that differ, if at all for different shafts.

Agree it is almost impossible to build it to heavier specs than most of the industry. Trust me I have one of the best builders in all of California working on my clubs. He did a progressive swing weight set in both Miura TC-201 an MB-101s. They are fantastic. He is also heading to Artisan to get fitted. I am sure he will be picking their brains even more.
