Ping g425 vs tsi2 fairway

Recommended Posts

Looking at possibly putting a 7 wood in the bag and I think is down to these two (unless there are other suggestions) after hitting them, not a huge discernable difference.

Any experience with either, leaning one way or the other?

My goal with this club is more for higher launching and soft landing rather than pure distance.

Thanks in advance!

Tested both. Height will not be a problem. Either one will stop on a green. The Ping has a shallow face, TSi2 is more traditional fairway wood shape.

I went with the TSi2. First one to unseat my Cobra F9. You should hit both. You will like one more than the other.

Do you think I'll get along better with the G425 if I'm a little bit steeper with my woods? Then again my 3 and 5 woods are mizuno stzs which I think are more traditional and I hit them just fine

I don’t know that Ping has ever made a fairway wood better than the 425. I could easily game it. But it is a shallow face. If I was steep, I may want a little taller face. It is hard to say. Depends on how steep is steep.

One thing I do is I will use a 7 wood off a tee box if I need a 200-220 yard shot on a tight or short hole. I like the look of the TSi2 off the tee. That was a factor.

These are both forgiving heads, the Ping probably a little more so, but not much in it. Out of a divot or a bad lie, I’d say the Ping might be a little easier. Shallow faces are usually easier off turf for most people.

Seeing as Mizuno doesn't do a 7w in the ST-Z; why not set your 5w to 20* and see if that works in the 7w slot?

Ha! Probably not. Have never played a wood easier to hit than the F9’ fairway, and it looks good too. I can snap some photos if you like. I’m not going to knock Cobra, their woods are strong. Mine is showing some wear because I would use it from anywhere without fear. Great club on a par 5 when your tee shot is offline and you need a quality layup option off a tough lie or position.

Slightly different look with the TSi2, which is the larger head of the two. It may be a little better if you catch one high on the face. Feel and power are both excellent. I also like the Titleist adjustable hosel more and the standard loft being 21 degrees. But I am hanging on to the Cobra. Resale is low, easier to keep it — just in case. And I did look at the RadSpeed, another really strong Cobra fairway.

This is exactly the dilemma I'm having but at the 4 wood spot. Don't know if I go standard TSI2 4 wood or G425 5 wood turned down to play at 16.5. I don't think either would be a particularly bad call.

I have the TSi2 in my bag. It launches high without you having to think about it and I've found it useful out of the semi rough as well, especially when you need momentum to move the ball with some predictability. In neutral position A1 on the sure fit, it sits quite open compared to what I'm used to from the 915, 915 and TS2, it is stated 21 dgr of loft I play mine -0.75 so I've put mine in the D2 setting. This is the most reliable setting for me with this particual club and I can work it both ways if needed. Play my TSi3 Driver in std. A1 setting. I believe the G425 is as good, it's a matter of what you like to look down at, at address and what setting you prefer in relation to how you deliver the club with you stock shot. I'm a Titleist guy, so I fitted myself using Trackman outdoor and it has turned out great for me. Good Luck! 🙂

Either would work. I would probably take the 16.5 option for the distance. Both look inviting and are easy to hit.

The 15 degree TSi2 set at 16 is another option. Slightly larger head than the 16.5, but it’s not large. Looks good. It gets up easily off the turf. Actually, I was going to dial mine up but even at standard loft it is no problem.

Two outstanding fairways honestly!  I had a tsi2 7 wood that I recently sold.  It has such a nice shape!  Easy to hit and is really hot off the face.  I’m currently moving into a 425 max 3 wood because I need the shallow design from tight fairways.

Some mention the 425 is tough from the tee because of the shallow design,  but I tee up my 3 wood just off the ground so it works great.

This is the first time I’m going to ping for a 3 wood, but I just love the new shape.  Plus the new clean matte crown just suites my eye.  Adding a little hot melt to the front toe and heel and a counterbalanced shaft.  I’m excited to get this thing out on the course!

TSi2 feels and sounds way better at impact.  Both are easy to hit and want to fly high.

I ended up with a TSi2 5w turned down to 17.25* with a TP-6 at 42”.  Every bit as forgiving as the G425 Max I had previously but much better feel and sound.

Had 3w/7w in the G425 Max and then 16.5/7w in the TSi2 before settling on the TSi2 5w.

Go from that to a Callaway UW 21* which is a great club in its own way.

Put a TSi2 7 wood in my bag a few weeks ago. Its a fun club to hit, can be versatile once you dial it in and get the right shaft.

I have it set to D2 as well @MJBGolf, it's upright and a little strong. It's bolted to a Fuji Evolution 2 stiff. I have no idea about the weights in this, it had a green circle. I do know that it's a bit heavier feeling, I feel the clubhead everywhere, which is really nice.

It's my 220 235 club. I popped one downwind 240 last weekend, it balloons into the wind a bit if you don't watch it.

It wants to fly high, but I have learned to flight it down to control it better. I'm struggling hitting it off the tee for some mental reason, but its money off the deck.

I just got the TSi2 driver, and a 4 wood head arrives tomorrow, so I'm kinda hooked on this lineup.

I'm coming from TS2s, so can't help on the Pings...

Can't make a direct comparison in 7 woods.

I played the TSi2 3 wood last year. Noticed faster ball speed, lower launch, and less spin vs the G425 max 3 wood.

The 425 Max 7 wood is a new addition to my bag. Think I prefer the epic speed I used some last year but it's a solid stick.

For a seven wood I personally would get the g425. I use my three wood off the deck mostly and would exclusively use the 7 wood off the deck so I would prefer the shallower face. I've owned a tsi 3 wood and the g425 was much better for me. I have the tsi3 driver though and love it. As someone else said, get them both and keep the one you like; or test em. You should know pretty quickly which one you'd prefer.
