How to polish ferrule after turning with acetone?

Get some 3M Trizact 3000g. It's a totally different animal from wet/dry paper, even 3000g wet/dry paper, leaving a much smoother result. Not that it matters that much with a ferrule, but on a car it will cut the initial heavy cut compounding time by half.

That can work on some but really its just about practice, its not that hard. Requires a light touch and you need to know when to stop messing with it.

Quick question on turning / polishing. Do BB&F ferrules bleed in color?

I'm building two sets using these ferrules and although they're pretty darn close in diameter as the hosel, I want it to be perfect. Concerned that acetone would cause some bleeding in color.

If you wipe around the circumference, there will be less chance to bleed.  Regarding will they, my guess is yes.  More like smear after acetone melting, then bleed, though.

When you get them to final size, hold a damp rag (with acetone) against it, and spin the shaft against the rag. That should get rid of any smearing of the colors. The key is to move fast.

The BB&F's I've used are the basic black with 2 colored rings, so not really an issue with those.

A quick swipe vertically downward, not going around, using a piece of paper towel that's quite wet with acetone.  It takes practice.  That said, this method will not make the ferrules as nice as if you use some polishing compound in a strip of soft cloth.  You can even use toothpaste.  Shoe-shine the ferrule with a piece of cloth and it will look its best.

Exactly this. I will even shoe shine with a strip of paper

Shoe shining with a strip of cloth and plastic polish works great for the final step.  Toothpaste could be used in a pinch.  Guys shine up oxidized headlamp lenses with the stuff, so why not a ferrule?

I've turned down lots of sets of BB&F ferrules with acetone and never noticed the color bleeding from one section of a colored ferrule to another.  You'll be good.

My method for turning down ferrules is to sand them down flush and then use a lint free towel literally dripping with acetone to shine the ferrules up. Takes a little getting used to the right amount but turns out very glossy.

Use 91% alcohol. Just damp a clean rag with it, spin or turn it like you do with Acetone. It will look a bit cloudy and hazy, but once its dry, just wipe it off with same towel and you will be left with a shiny, polished surface. If it still looks a bit too grainy, just repeat the process.

+1 I turn them with acetone first and finish with 91% alcohol. really shines them up!

I agree. Quick vertical swipes.
