Are there boutique wood brands?

Recommended Posts

So the last couple of years i've been trying non-mainstream brands, starting with PXG and now Sub70. I really love the Sub70s but already feel like i want to buy some Haywoods just to see.

I have PXG woods that i really like and hit super well. So of course i need to buy something new

Are there boutique brands that offer good woods? (i'm aware sub 70 does and am considering those). Nobody at my club expects me to have mainstream OEMs anymore, it's kind of my thing

Requirements:

Must have left handed options

Must ship to Canada

Srixon ZX5 w/PX Hzrdus Red 60

Srixon ZX 15 w/PX Hzrdus Red 70

Tour Edge C723 21* w/PX hzrdus black 80

Titleist T150 4-AW w/PX LZ 6.0

Titleist Jet Black 54/60 with PX LZ 6.0

Have a look at TSG for some japanese woods. New level are akso meant to launching some, but who knows if they will do left handed.

Tokomo might soon have something. I don’t know anything about it though.

Takomo would very much interest me, but like New Level not a lot of lefty stuff historically

I checked Krank but they don't have lefty fairways.

OK.....So, TOUR EDGE has lefty stuff and offer Tensei Raw White as a stock shaft

Should we just lock this one up and say C722 driver and E722 fairway?

They seem to have a distributor in Canada

Jeff is getting excited!

Well I do not consider Tour Edge  a boutique club maker, since they have a

lengthy history of making clubs.

That said, they do make some fantastic clubs, at a very good price. Their equipment flat out  performs .

An excellent choice , that deserves your consideration.

Ok cool thanks, yeah just lesser known here, I've actually never seen them used in person

No.

Unlike irons which are pretty basic and can be churned out on a CNC easily for a DTC brand - woods require TONS of R&D and are full of patented technology and processes. They’re all multi process and multi material heads which are not in the slightest cost effective in small runs.

the cheap stuff you see from DTC brands and others like hereko golf is all old tech being pumped out by factories overseas that are tooled up for those old processes and just keep making them with slight tweaks and colors etc

That makes sense. I feel like Tour Edge is exactly what I was looking for. Kind of a lesser known brand that I've never used before but has enough cred with woods to be trusted

@MtlJeff if you can play 11* in a bonded hosel the Wishon 919THI would be a good option.

I actually owned a Wishon 919 a few years back. Nice club! I checked them out again I think they didn't have a lot of fairway options

While I'm sure TEE isn't really a "boutique" maker, they aren't readily available and you rarely see new stuff, or any at all around.  So while the OP hasn't any experience with them, I think that is a far better bet than going with a new release from the makers that have just come out.

Irons and wedges are one thing, getting into 1st gen woods and having decent shaft offerings (without bad up charges) is a nice thing.

Tour Edge (T.E.E.) has a cult following here in the US for their woods specifically the fairways. I’ve tried the drivers in the past and they were very good and very under rated. I have a buddy that is in Love with them and almost always has over 50% of his bag with their clubs.

Driver:  MIZUNO ST-G 440 (9.5d) - Lin-Q Red 60s

Fwy:  MIZUNO ST-G Titanium 3w (15) - Lin-Q Red 60s

Fwy:  COBRA F6 Baffler (19) - Hzrdus Red 75/6.0
Hybrid:  COBRA F7 Hybrid (22) - Tour Blue 85s

Iron:  MIZUNO Pro 245 (5 - G) - Recoil Proto 125 F4
Wedge:  MIZUNO T24 Denim Copper (54/10) - Recoil Wedge Proto F4
Wedge:  TAYLORMADE Hi-Toe Copper (60/10) - Recoil Wedge Proto F4

Bag:  BENNINGTON LQO-9 Stand Bag or Ogio Silencer Cart

Didn't Callaway once send you on an all-expenses paid trip to Torrey Pines to get free Callaway clubs?
