The current P790 model hit retail at the end of August 2021 so I suppose it’s possible a new P790 is on the way.

Yep, all TM irons getting an update. Announcement and preorders will be end of this year, and release around late Jan or early Feb.

Confirmed via a TM rep.  Full p700 line coming to carts late Dec, early Jan.

I also heard from a rep that they are all getting an update BESIDES P790 and Stealth (these will stay another year).  P790 and stealth will stay another year while everything else gets an update.  P790 would be another year and a quarter from now they would get released.  Stealth 2 is in the works for driver and woods this year.  Also new putters this year

P790 is getting a reboot from what I understand.  It was technically a 2021 release but COVID and materials issues forced most orders to be filled in 2022.  TM is looking to get back on the 2 year cycle with a 2023 790 release.

Saw the pics of the 770 in the MB/MC thread. It looks like the 2021 790's with 770 printed on it instead. Really can't tell what to expect. Updating the 770's to look like the 790's makes be think they will keep the 790's for 1 more cycle. But considering its late November hope we hear something soon.

i am definitely interested in some new p790s.  never they they were for me, but after playing a stock rental set they were pretty great.

That’s exactly what i hope for!   I can even live with the offset.  Just thin that top line and re-release, and I’m in!

P790 in the pics with the DEMO stickers on them look subtly different than the 790s beside them without the DEMO stickers. leading edge definitely looks straighter as oppose to more curved on the P790 with no demo sticker and both are 7 irons ?

There is a new fitting system is why new 790 heads are being sent. No change to 790 right now. Most likely late summer will see more info on the next version.

Is there any word on how the new P790 will differ from previous models?  I’m using my trusty ole RSi TP’s?  Love them, but am seeking a bit more length in my irons as I get older.  More like to not lose any more length…haha.  Love the minimal offset of my RSI TP’s and the thinner top line.  That’s why I’m asking about the new P790’s….I’m sure I could get use to a bit more offset and thicker top line than what I use now, but they look so darned good.

There was a launch and now presale of the 2023 TM irons - 770,7MC,7MB.

the current 790 is not a new 2023 model. They had a 17 , 19 and now 21 which is still current. Have not heard anything but would guess if there is an updated version it would be a fall 2023 launch.

Hated the 2021 P790. Matte finish wore very poorly, and the topline was THICC.

 

A more durable finish + a topline that looked more like the 2019 model would be a great improvement.

I may be in the minority here, but i personally would prefer the topline of the P790 to be slightly thinner, and the finish to be a tad more durable.  If we could have the finish and topline of the 2019 and the length of the 7-4 irons of the 2021, I would  love it even more.  I don't understand why the 8,9, PW in the P790s are so short from heel to toe.  If you want a short heel to toe distance club, buy the P770.  I think it makes the topline look even thicker in the short irons because of this, and it would be nice to have the shorter irons look longer heel to toe uniformly through the set.  I am buying the new P770 9 and PW solely based on the look.  The heel to toe of the two are identical in these short irons, and the topline of the 770s are thinner, making for a better look at address in these clubs.  I don't know, it just seems repetitive to make the P770 and P790 short irons similar in heel to toe length and almost pointless.  I have both these old P770 and the p790 and have measured these with a caliper, so I know they are only a mm or two off.

Does anyone have some pics of wear on the 2021 0790? I much prefer its satin looks to the earlier chrome p790 offerings. Thought the new ones would look better long time.

I don't, but the bag chatter just looks more visible than on a brushed steel finish

Again, it’s just a random dude in the FB Taylormade group, but he said he hit all the new clubs including a new P790. I asked if he was sure it was a new 790 since I didn’t not even get a hint of a new P790, and he confirmed it. He felt it was cheaper looking and feeling than the current one. So take that for what it’s worth.

They are wearing fine to me. Yes the OG were all shiney but the satin is subtle and unless you are < 12 inches away from the club good luck really seeing the difference.

 

You can see my 770 next to it, and other then style its really hard to see the satin. Played these most of the year, I generally walk but at least 10-12 cart rounds where bag chatter really happens with bumps IMHO.

 

I'll take the 21 model over the older models if given the choice, bit better feels IMHO, but it wasn't a reason just to upgrade either.
