USGA be having their way with me today! That was a pretty good 😯 lie there, and play has been suspended after third lengthy lightning delay.

I actually agree 100% on the shaft making the club.  I feel like the clubheads are all roughly the same but the shaft is what changes the performance of them.  I always request a blind test so I don't know shaft of club head regardless of the club (except wedges, they have to look a certain way), and then I buy the one that gives me the best results.  And then I rarely look at them again with the intent to know what they are.  I could pick my shafts out of a line up because I have seen them so many times, but have never really looked at them, if that makes sense.

For some of us it's an addiction to getting in touch with and trying out the current or semi current equipment that is out there. We Ho's are always seeking an edge with our equipment.

You're too casual Pete. 😅

Yesterday when we teed off the forecast was not good. There was a 75% chance of afternoon storms hitting in our area sometime while we would be on the golf course. It kept a lot of people from not playing. Peter decided he wasn't going risk driving the hour to Broadmoor to only play a few holes, get soaked and drive back. That left Bill, myself, and Steve. On #1 Bill asked what tees we played. I said white, Steve said the super senior tees, and Bill played the standard senior tees. Bill wasn't having us play three different set of tees so Steve moved back one and I moved up to the senior tees.

Our threesome all played the Yellow's at 5406 yds  67.3/112

There were storms all around us off and on for most of the round yet none of them ever came overhead and caused us any weather issues. Due to the iffy weather nobody else tee'd off around the time that we did. We had the course all to ourselves. We saw only two other groups all round long. It was 67* with an occasional one club wind. The skies were spectacular looking. It was actually sunny for a few holes off and on. It was awesome out there.

Playing from those set of tees I had for most of the Par 4's driver --- wedge, gap wedge, 8 or 9 iron. I hit a lot of greens and some approach shots were stiff. My putter didn't work. I had 6 birdie looks from inside 20 feet and missed them all. I three jacked twice. Golf can be cruel. I made two double bogeys. I had no penalty strokes and I had zero birdies. I shot 80. I was only disappointed with my poor putting. I expect that I will hit a few zonkers on the course tee to green like I did. Heck I was overdue.

It was great to play again with Bill. It was nice to have that deep green freshly mowed golf course all to ourselves.

Mother Nature provided quite the fabulous display up in the skies for our round.

I know Broadmoor. I like Broadmoor. It's the course that I played the most during the first years that I lived in Asheville.

Good morning, Loungers!  I had planned for this to be a golf day, but the weatherman  said it is a high alert day for storms, large hail, and possible tornados.  So instead, I am going to work on starting the build process on a set of Toura CB irons.  I was fortunate to be selected as a builder and tester of these gorgeous irons on a different site.

IMG_02121.JPG.eddfae9367b36d1e87359a7cd8764253.JPGIMG_02131.JPG.091f213e58ccba53af0f64a515b6a0bc.JPGIMG_02142.JPG.0c674085000f6de93733682ef5bac12a.JPG

I ordered a set of Recoil 95 graphite shafts for the build, which I am going to paint, so they match the blank heads.

Now the funny stuff.

Great looking iron heads DLR and congrats on being selected.

I have a question for you. Have you before painted a graphite shaft? What type of paint do you use? Will it adhere permanently or will there be a tendency to chip off with the in and out of the golf bag abuse that shafts experience?

Ruthless.  I think I have come to grips with the idea a vehicle as expensive as some people's homes is not my lane.

I have spray painted other shafts, mostly matte black, and occasionally have had to touch up a spot due to bag wear, but no chipping.  Here is a picture of the hammered silver paint I am using on the Recoil iron shafts.  I hand sand the shaft with 220 sandpaper, paint, and clear coat.  I will post a picture of the iron shafts when they are completed.

I had a choice of Toura MB or the CB irons.  The MB are gorgeous heads, but I went with the more forgiving CB model irons.

The beauty of MT, and the reason why I hate spring.  Over the past 4 days or so we have gotten 1"+ of rain.  The temps have been in the mid-50s and below, with some wind as well.  Like a lot of wind.  There is snow in the hills around the valley, but it doesn't stand out against the gray sky backdrop.

The beauty of MT, and the reason I love spring.  By the weekend our little part of the world will be flirting with 80, and mid-70s all next week.  It will be wet and green since this rain and snow water the grasses.

... So you guys remember that young lady I played golf with at Aguila? A Jr in High School that just won the 2024 Spring State Golf Championship playing against the boys. She shot an insane 69-63 to win by 4 strokes. Only 6 rounds shot in the 60's and nobody else did it twice. Remember this name: Allis Tribolet as I have a feeling we may be hearing about her at some point and time playing on the LPGA. Although talking to her she is going to the Naval Academy and wants to fly Fighter Jets.

That sounds like a young lady with a good head on her shoulders, and knows what she wants and the work it takes to get there.

Can't they keep it on the ground if they keep it under 80?  Mine doesn't come off the ground until I redline it at 220 mph.

I don't have the club building skill or talent of DLR or imk or some of the rest of you. I have always admired you gents that can build and adjust your own sticks. I just Buy and Try. I got home from work and smiled when I saw the long skinny cardboard box on my door. I'm off to the range to compare the trajectory and distance against my current irons.

You should post that out in one of the main forums. I give it four replies before someone claims it will affect “bend profile,” feel, swing weight, or some combination. 🤣

Oh yeah. It’s convenient enough to many places where a lot of money is often made — Atlanta, Charlotte, DC to start — that there’s plenty of baller alerts. Highlands NC too, same category.

... When I was on staff with Titleist and they sent me my staff bag and clubs, I was a little surprised my 7 and 8 iron were only a few yards apart for carry distances. Hmmmm. I took them to Golfsmith and had them measured. Turns out my 8 iron was 2* strong and my 7 iron 2* weak. So the same loft for both clubs?!? That is why I bought my first loft lie machine and started doing all my own work. I had already been doing the simple stuff like swing weighting with a nice scale and exact measurements with a club ruler as well as re-gripping so just the basic stuff. After getting the LL machine the next step was a good shaft puller. Makes removing adaptors sill easy. I enjoy the tinkering.
