That is a funny thread, and it’s very predictable which stuffed shirts have or will show up. Wouldn’t play with either of those guys on a bet.

First of all Happy Easter everyone!  Went to the course today and played early.  Overall I shot a 91, but definitely a tale of 2 nines.  My new course management strategy is give myself a putt for par or better on every hole.  

 

On the front I was long on every shot into the green, I attribute this to still learning my distances since I reshafted my irons.  I gained 10-15 yards with my irons.  Average proximity was close to 50 feet.  This led to 5 three putts.  When I was actually giving myself a legitimate chance at a par putt I was better.  

On the back I shot a 42 with no 3 putts.  With my proximity improving greatly, I managed a couple pars.  I’m really liking where my game is at after I decided to work hard during March.
 

The season officially starts next Saturday at my club so I was testing out some clubs to get my bag set.  Yesterday, I went to 2nd Swing and found a few old clubs and bought a few for the whopping total of $20, getting regripped cost more.  I got a TM Burner Driver and 7W.  The 7W is so similar to my old one (was best club) and after today is definitely in the bag.  The driver is still a work in progress. When hit well, this thing is a low screamer and I’m fine with that because it is straight compared to other drivers and runs like bat out of hell.

... Sweet. I love seeing mid to high index players hitting their irons past the pin. As you know after all the work you have put in, it is easier to dial the distance back down than it is to try and add distance to approach shots. When not pin high we should be approximately 50% long and 50% short, yet I see most am's come up short 90% of the time. Sounds like you are off to a great spring start!

You have mentioned taking more clubs on several occasions and I have been trying to do that since I’m probably not hitting the same club within 2-3 yards on every shot.  Hopefully I can start honing in on my distances more consistently so I can be closer to the 5-7 yards past the hole than 12-15 yards past.

Sights from my day at work.

The three young buck golfers tried their best to beat the pro (Noah) in a putting contest. 

Over 18 holes one came within 4 total putts of the Pro. Not bad.

Couples golf today.  Usual spring golf.  50 and windy.  Thankfully the snow came through on 15, but it was just for a hole.

 

@deadsolid...shank we snuck by the GM and wife.  It was so good to see them and was great fun, but when it dipped into low/mid 40s it was touch and go.

 

I was 4 over and not even sure how it happened.  Just plugging along and made the turn 4 over then even on the back.

 

BFCC looks like they put in the hits for Easter.  Kids must love that.

Hoping to get the club membership finalized this week, if they’ll have me! 😁

 

There are two clubs five minutes or closer to the house. One doesn’t make sense financially, the other is FULL. Found a superb Tillinghast course not as close as I’d like, but the last two years I’ve driven somewhat further for crappy golf (public golf in Pittsburgh is not good at all) so I cannot wait!

Where are you looking?  Dad had a Jr at SC, he couldn’t justify the full membership.  He would play the nine and then tipped well enough to play the 18 pretty regularly.  Isn’t that about 2 minutes door to door?

I could walk to SCCC but the buy in makes no sense for us, we may only live here another 4 or 5 years.

I’ve never played Nemacolin.  I have heard it is fantastic.  I am excited for you.  I played SCCC once with dad once, and Nevillewood once years and years ago.  But those are the only private south hills places I have played.

... A Lounge Public Service announcement. Thought I would pass something along from my years teaching, playing and helping my partners. I am sure most of you know this is a fundamental, but it is one I see constantly over looked. Maybe because it is so simple and self explanatory many tend to over look it or worse, ignore it. 

... It doesn't matter of you are a hitter or swinger. Puller or Thrower. You have to swing with or hit with the golf club. So often I see players over doing positions, or body movements, arm movements, cocking their wrists early or extending and cocking their wrists later. They are concentrating so much on something they are working on, they forget to swing the club. Lots of agonizing over getting the swing weight just right and they don't actually swing the club. 

... So make sure you are swinging the club, not just moving body parts. I have worked with one of my good friends starting 4 years ago when he couldn't break 100. I have given him very little instruction but have worked on some key elements of his swing and he now shoots in the upper 80's or low 90's. He still has a tendency to line up aimed far to the right, and then he turns his body back throwing the club from over the top causing all kinds of problems. I was working with him after our round  Friday and exaggerating a move with him in an open stance so he could feel a release from the inside. I asked him how heavy his club felt and he replied he didn't know because he never feels the club in his swing. 😱 He tries to just turn his body and let the club come along for the ride. He saw a Youtube video telling him to swing with his body and not use his hands "Don't let the tail wag the dog". The golf swing is a synergistic endeavor and you should use all your body parts in harmony. 

... Next time at the range or on the course, just check and make sure you are swinging or hitting with the club and not individual body parts or positions.

Yes it does and I noticed this week there are some bursting through buds so the lovely green ivy will be returning fairly soon.
