Who is making the next closet thing to a DH89 head?

Recommended Posts

With the sad passing of Byron Morgan, I was wondering who is making the closest thing to a DH89 head with the tai treatment? I know the easy answer is a Scotty Cameron 009 but was curious if someone out there was making something similar. Not the same obviously just similar.

Probably Artisan, believe they will do softening/rounding  to the head.

Surpised not see anyone say Lajosi as I had heard he made a pretty good answer style head. I have heard good things about the MA66  which model of Brandon Matthews is close to the DH89? I have the NO.1 and when comparing them the top line and front bumper look different.

You can add in the DD201 as well for sure as a potential option.

For Brandon Matthew his No.1 shape but you gotta get him to do a bunch of softening to it. That was a big part of Byron's work especially with the Tai treatment.

O wow that is good to know. Brandon Matthews seems to be rising up the list of newer putter makers and he was really easy to work with. So it seems like the big thing is the softening that is done. Is there someone who readily makes that an option similar to requesting the tai treatment?

That makes sense. I just didn't know if someone did it specifically without having to go into an entire break down of the exact softening you want, but I am sure its not super reqeusted so asking makes sense.

Lamont did softening on my ma66 when I had it built. Sent him a pic and he nailed it.

Brandon Matthews 1 is not the same as the 89, Dale,  MA66, 009.  The toe line and bumpers on Brandon Matthews are like an old school Anser shape.  I don't find it attractive as compared to the others.

I would look at Mann Krafted putters first.  LaMont makes an absolutely terrific softened Anser styled putter.  If I were to get another DH89 styled putter I would go with the MA66.

Yeah I defintitely agree with this, but if he smoothes the top line and the bumpers I could see it being close potentially.

Do you know who did the milling?

I didn't give the TP Reserve line a very close look at first and kind of dismissed it early.
