Jesus, I don't get why people are so obsessed with SC. The weld and transition from neck to shaft is so cheap and graceless.

if you were a welder, you would understand.  Same with the milling.  That 'rough' finish stuff looks cool on a putter for looks, but a welder or machinist would scoff at those finishes in real world applications (moving parts, mechanical construction)

I am a novice welder at best but it looks like someone just grabbed a MIG machine and hit it with some spots and called it a day.  Not saying I'm good but I could do better than that.

I can't see anything other than that weld, at least on some you can't see it from address, but this is hideous from every angle.

If DJ putts better with this 5.5 than his GT I will be shocked.  With the exception of Max Homa every pro who has used a 5.5 slant has been a negative strokes gained putter.  Not sure if it’s the design but it doesn’t work well with top level players.

Here is a Bettinardi tour putter. Weld looks no better than DJs (maybe worse)🤷🏼‍♂️ But like I’ve previously stated. I’m definitely not a welding aficionado

It's kinda like rust on antiques. It adds to the character and gives it that "custom" / unique / special feel.

As a guy who’s owned a metal fab/ custom car shop for 22 years now.  I’m having a loud laugh at the welding critique in this thread. You’ve obviously never tiged a neck on a cheap stainless putter.  I have.  It’s such a poor quality 303 and such a tiny tiny neck , it is comical how aggravating it is.  You truly need some sort of rotation fixture to spin the head in order to lay a perfectly spaced stack of dimes .  Without that and someone to spin it ( a helper or a electric motor) there’s going to be a start and stop somewhere.  This is where the poor quality metal comes in.  The “ skips “ you see in this weld are from start and stop.  And in my opinion the job isn’t bad at all. I’ve seen much better. I’ve seen much worse. the bastion milled and betti above are not better. Or worse.

Lol this was my thought. I am not a welder, but work with welders who weld TIG on Stainless all day everyday. I'm not saying any of them are top welders or super motivated individuals, but most have 15 years plus experience welding (some more like 30). The weld on Scotty looks very much like what I see on a daily basis. Good, not great.

The truth is. Some here hate welded neck putters. They literally think it looks “ unfinished “ or “ unclean”.  Like the welds should be worked smooth and a uniform finish applied over them. That’s fine if they pay to have their custom done to their liking. But a lot love the industrial look a welded neck provides.  For some reason this is a bur in their saddles. I cannot understand why.

Just do not understand the appeal of the Scotty 5.5 - Other OEMS make tyne style putters that look way better.
