I have an original jailbird and would love to duplicate. Are these guys just extending and then weighting? I putt with a 36” putter, wonder how far I’d have to extend. Guessing reshaft to maybe 39”?

They are using a heavier “tank” shaft that is longer.

I definitely think they will rerelease the putter I am just curious if they will do so with an O-Works insert or not.

I’m sure they will do an exact replica of what Fowler and Clark were playing, they would be silly not to at this point.  I have two tank I-works putters with the MH face and love them.  I’d add this to the family as well once it’s released.

@Azaggie Details on the specs = have been posted earlier in this thread/ elsewhere.. Copied below, for easier reference.

Albeit not sure whether there's some discrepancy in the specs (i.e. 37 inches... or 39 inches?)
... or whether @easyyy's summary (in @atursky's thread) = the final spec for Rickie Fowler's putter

(Note1: @easyyy's explainer "At least those were his specs about a month and a half ago. Straight from Joe Toulon.").

(Note2:  The "It started with..." preface in J.Wunder's write-up).

Callaway/Johnny Wunder: "It started with... 37-inch VERSA JailBird with a 17-inch grip" (https://worldofwunder.callawaygolf.com/the-versa-jailbird-the-putter-that-took-over-the-u-s-open/)

...Edit:  I re-read the Callaway article and noted the following:

What’s with the model that the leaders at the U.S. Open were using?

Odyssey Performance Rep Cody Hale built the two putters in question, and this is what he had to say:

“Both players are using a very similar Versa Jailbird. The longer, counterbalanced version seems to help players swing the putter more freely and reduce some of the stroke manipulations. The feedback we continually receive is that the putter feels very stable, like it’s “swinging itself,” which creates a lot of confidence to hole those short to mid-range putts.”

Player A (Top 5)
Versa Jailbird w / MH Insert
Tank Steel Double Bend Shaft
38 5/8” eog / 2* / 70.75* / 631.7g
SuperStroke Zenergy 17” 3.0

Player B (U.S Open Champ)
Versa Jailbird w / MH Insert
Tank Steel Double Bend Shaft
39” eog / 2* / 70* / 636.7g
SuperStroke Zenergy 17” 3.0

I tried the #7 version of this putter several years ago, 38 inches I believe.  Made everything on the practice green, but never could get those results on the course......  Maybe the magic is the Jailbird shape.

I like the idea of a 38"-39" putter, never crossed my mind but it seems (at least in theory) that flow would be better in a more connected way. I'd probably spend the money on one if they release them.

My buddy did this with a PXG blade double bend and loves it. I think he plays his at 37/37.5 but same theory. He has no idea about the club specs just what worked well at his fit lol.

As someone who has long experimented with putters, I like anything that leaves a bit more flex/softness in the elbows to allow free flow.

I love this ... who did you call, the VP of research? Marketing? Who did you expect to talk to? Did you expect the $14 an hour customer rep at the call center was going to fill you in on the minute-by-minute discussions goings on in the board room?

Yeah, because you could never reshaft a putter.

It was actually Johnny Wunder. I got hold of him via YouTube and talked for a few minutes...

Don’t forget about the White Hot Pro Havok.  Quite similar to the Jailbird, and might be able to still snag one cheap if people haven’t caught on yet.

Must be a heavy head, because mine swing-weighted like E-6 or something like that with the stock grip at 35”.  I put a $20 Winn 15” heavy grip on, and it is obviously a stable and forgiving putter.

IMHO, you don’t really need to go 38” or so like Ricky and Wyndham.  If you generally putt at say 34”, even 35” with CB will give you that longer putter feel with some counter-balancing.  YMMV.

The Havok was awesome, wish I still had mine. It did make a bad ting sound but it was so stable.

The OG 7 bird is a lot like it with better sound but not as stable because it’s a lot smaller. The 7 bird is a phenomenal design that never caught on. You can get them for $100ish new on Callaway preowned with stroke lab too.

Lol.  NGL, Rory should probably try one, as that TM he keeps going back to doesn't seem to be working (like ever)...

For anyone who wants to try a similar shape -

https://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/putters/putters-2022-wh-og-7-bird.html

New 35” stroke lab for $105. You get double points back today too. A lot better deal than the jailbird versa will be when it eventually gets here.

I honestly prefer the alignment on this than the versa but that’s just me.

I've never put with a jailbird before, is it that much more different than something like a o-works 7?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the MH face.
