I always liked Sean Toulon, have e-mailed with him a few times about putters and have gamed Toulons from before and after Odyssey acquired them. He was always friendly and took the time to chat with me even though I'm just a regular customer. Have a bad feeling about the "Toulon" brand going forward if he's gone.

Same experience, i just thought i try my luck hoping for a response but didn’t have my hopes up and the next thing you know he did reply and answer my question in detail. Very nice guy and very nice putter ! Big fan !

I posted this in the WTB a couple weeks ago, but haven't had any luck. Does anybody have a S/20 sole plate weight they'd be willing to sell me? Currently have the A/7 in my Madison and wanting to put the heavier 20 gram weight in it.

Yeah. Was kind of hoping for one of those "I've got one laying around that I'll never use again and won't kill you with the price" situations. But market price is market price, so I get it. Amazing how hard to find they are right now.

Just found these cleaning out some golf stuff lol. A7 and P3 which is even lighter than A/7. Back in my testing days when I wasn’t sure which headweight I preferred.

Sean Toulon left if that’s what ya mean. I dunno how it works with the Toulon putter line.

Correct. Odyssey is releasing there annual putter line without Toulon collaboration.

Odyssey AI. Bunch of different head shapes (jailbird being one of them). 2 different face inserts. Milled and non milled. Dark blue finish.

Does this mean Toulon is going independent again?  I never felt the Callaway relationship totally worked.  If they had gone all in and just had Toulon, like Titleist has just Scotty….but then they already had a successful putter line.  I know in theory one was mass market and one luxury but it never quite worked that way for me as the pricing got closer and closer. (Or it seemed that way to me).

This feels too much of the same, from what he did with Odyssey. I personally would have liked to see something a bit different.

I mean I like it. What else would you want to see?

Toulon knows he needs to move away from the Odyssey Toulon models as much as possible. That means changes to well established models that go beyond just changing a model name. The Vista having a tri-sole design is a cool change. The face milling looks interesting too.

If you look acorss all putter brands there are like 5 different head shapes that people recycle over and over again. The only innovation at this point it seems is different necks, different slignment aids and different materials. Toulon looks like he is going for premium materials. What kinda shape did you habe in mind? Odyssey is the most popular brand on tour.... its be hard to make something they dont already have.

I love the look of their first Small Batch release, but the 904L has me a little worried. Weren't those like 2K before? I don't really understand why the different metal costs so much. What's the big deal about 904L?

He’s already done multiple small batches since breaking away from Callaway and they were $1,800-$2,000.

Aren't they coming out with a 2024 retail line though too? Seems like it from instagram comments, but I haven't see anything really leaked. Hoping it's not just the SB releases.

The difference? Is hype. Just like german stainless steel. We say it is special, only make 50 of them, and then price it like crazy and knucklehead golfers will want it.

904L is a stainless steel used and made for piping purposes where high corrosion resistance is needed. Industries include chemical transport, oil and gas, metal quenching, fertilizer transport, and saltwater piping. The last is why Rolex uses it in their diving watches.

Spec wise its negligible in terms of hardness, tensile strength, elasticity, ductility, etc.

What does this have anything to do with in use of a putter? Who knows 🤷‍♂️

More corrosion resistant to the fertilizer in the soil when we ground our putters haha

Correct. That's what Sean has stated at least, that they will be coming out with a retail release next year. What the pricing will be is anybody's guess. Curious to see if it will be around that $450 mark or closer to the Garage Toulon prices of $600 or so.

If they are the garage prices I would hope they still allow the semi custom options like alignment, neck, finish etc.

Do they really think we're this dumb? While they can use AI to help a robot make putts, I don't know how you would use it to make a putter. For example, you could simulate thousands of putts and and take the results to create a stroke optimized to make a certain putt (e.g., a crazy 40 footer). But you would be using this data to optimize a program written for a robot. In fact, depending on how much green and robotic stroke variance you can control, you can likely get to a place where 7 putts out of 10 will actually be made --by the robot. Now I could stop there, but I'm on a roll. While there's also a chance that one putter may emerge as the best putter-to-robot match (yet another source of variance), we're not robots, so why bother? We all see things differently, feel things differently and putt on ever-changing conditions. Look, I'm an old data guy. As most of you know, the level of BS here is shameless. So much so that I'll buy a putter from the first manufacturer to wave its arms and promote that it doesn't use AI, but that it has invested in a QC process capable of ensuring close tolerance to spec.

It's also supposed to get to a higher polish and better color from the higher nickel content.

I don't know, after reading about 904L I wish they'd just use regular stainless or carbon and bring these in at a lower price point. I absolutely love the look of the Vista they just released but $1800 is just a bit too much for me. I was all ready to pull the trigger but I couldn't do it.

Guess I'll wait to check out the new San Diego:
