NEW TITLEIST PRO V 1. " STAR. "

The new "star" is being played on tour; as higher spin model of the " left dash".

 

 

Anyone had experience with this new offering??

wouldn't a lower spin left dash be the same as a V1x? 

- Im losing track of all of the options/characteristics.  I may just try to learn about all the barbie dress combinations from my 7 year old instead of keeping up with ball variants and sub variants.

I've posted this before when the star has come up from an MGS article when the left dash was made available through retail.

 

"On the extreme end of the Titleist CPO offerings is the 3-piece ProV1★(Pro V1 Star). Billed as high spin and high compression, it’s the spiniest ball in the Pro V1 family. Effectively a niche offering within an already niche portion of the tour market, Star is the least popular of the CPOs. In some sense, it’s the opposite of Left Dash. The latter works for exceptionally high spin players, while Star is an option for exceptionally low spin players. Justin Thomas, for example, played Star for a run earlier this year while working on some swing changes that dropped his spin numbers appreciably. He has since moved away from the ball."

Every time I've seen someone from Titleist discuss it, they say it's extremely unlikely that it will ever become a retail offering.

Isn't the star a remake from its previous release in the early 2000s?

 

I'm fairly certain I played the star for a while around 2002-04.  I remember it being very firm.

You may be correct.  I remember finding a ProV1 that had a star on in a bush at my father's CC pretty much the following week after the LPGA rolled through back around that time you mention.

It's not a remake. The original Pro-V1 Star in the early 2000's (2001-3) was the first 4 piece/dual core ball Titleist made. It was a low spin ball/392 dimples. The current Pro-V1 Star (352 dimples) is a 3 piece super high spin ball. It's a Titleist CPO ball. Here is what Titleist says about it.

 

The Pro V1 Star is such a unique golf ball in that, I’m not sure it’s all that good for any regular golfer. It’s really extreme in terms of launch conditions. It’s a very, very high-spin Pro V1, is how I would describe it. That is a unique profile.
