I’m curious to see if Phil’s good play continues.  The putter change was spot on and he’s gearing up for the masters.  I’m sure Rahm is frustrated and realizing it’s harder to win on LIV than some make it seem.  I would like to see Bryson have a little more consistency but he’s trending in the right direction.  Cam needs to kick it up a notch, major season is upon us.  Will AK have a better weak and look more like his old self, time will tell.  Excited to see another golf course I’ve never seen them play.

I'm excited about this event because the course plays 6,700 yards. I occasionally play courses of similar length, so seeing what a pro shoots on that type of setup will be fun. Also, with all the talk about players hitting the ball too far, several players have already said the course has eliminated their drivers. As such, this won't be a typical bomb and gouge event; these guys will need to play some high-level golf shots...or they will just bomb 3 woods everywhere 🙂 . I'm very interested to see how the pros attack this course.

actually the joke is that the Asian tour has a stop called the Hong Kong Open at the same course if anyone wants to see what the attendance is for this event just find the attendance for that Asian tour event.

That was my initial thought as well. And I’d say the same if it were the PGAT playing a course that short. I read most guys just leaving the drivers in the bag. 🥱

The International Series played there in November as the Hong Kong Open, which has been played since 1959.  Ben Campbell won, beating Cam Smith with a score of -19 over four days.  Prior to that is was part of the European Tour for decades. Previous winners of the Hong Kong Open include Rory, Ian, Monty, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Padraig, Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer, Greg Norman, Justin Rose etc.  The last Euro Tour event there was in 2018, with Rai beating Fitzy.  

 

The course is short, but it has a pretty big impact on club off the tee choices, and you'll see a lot of them hitting fairway woods.   Water features cross the fairways in some landing zone areas, and many of the dog legs can't be hit over.

Why are people complaining about short courses? Remember, shorter courses makes distance less important as a whole and opens it up to shot making. I see that as a positive.

In the interview with Rahm, DJ, and Bryson, Bryson indicated he would hit driver on 3-4 holes, depending on wind.  DJ said he hit a lot of drivers yesterday, but then narrowed it down to hitting driver on 6-7 holes.  Sounds like it is often windy, and will have the biggest effect on whether driver is taken off the tee on a few holes.  DJ also played here in 2015.  Rahm said it reminded him a lot of Northern Spain courses, shorter, tree lined etc.

Have to admit these guys are coached on what to say very well. Like everything else.

 

Definitely going to help AK get going which is a positive.
